On Friday, February 6, 2026, Tumblr users across the United States found themselves abruptly locked out of their digital home. The popular microblogging and social media platform, which reportedly boasts between 135 and 142 million monthly active users as of early 2026, experienced a widespread outage that left tens of thousands unable to access its content or features. The incident sparked a torrent of complaints on social media, as users scrambled to understand why their favorite online haven had suddenly gone dark. According to Downdetector, a website that tracks outages by collecting status reports from various sources, the trouble began around 5:55 p.m. EST. Initial reports indicated that more than 6,000 users were having trouble accessing Tumblr, with problems affecting both the mobile app and the website. As the evening wore on, the scale of the disruption became clear. By 3:48 p.m. PST (6:48 p.m. EST), more than 18,000 users had reported issues, and the number continued to climb rapidly. When it comes to recognizing forms of musical greatness, there are titles so broad and grandiose that it seems impossible to bestow them on any single entity. I am about to discuss an example of the latter, while also making a case for this particular distinction being especially notable.
