Several businesses and nonprofits have launched AI-powered tools to help patients get their insurance claims paid and navigate byzantine medical bills, creating a robotic tug-of-war over who gets care and who foots the bill for it. Sheer Health, a three-year-old company that helps patients and providers navigate health insurance and billing, now has an app that allows consumers to connect their health insurance account, upload medical bills and claims, and ask questions about deductibles, copays and covered benefits. “You would think there would be some sort of technology that could explain in real English why I’m getting a bill for $1,500,” said cofounder Jeff Witten. The program uses both AI and humans to provide the answers for free, he said. Patients who want extra support in challenging a denied claim or dealing with out-of-network reimbursements can pay Sheer Health to handle those for them. In North Carolina, the nonprofit Counterforce

Sure, it’s based on a novel that many (most?) high schoolers read either for academics or infatuation. Spoiler - Jacob Elordi’s Heathcliff just won’t be undone and keeps playing pranks on everyone. Still, last week’s trailer sold a big, sprawling, and unapologetically lustful adaptation aimed at those who love the book and those who’ve barely heard of it. The point is to win new fans, not coddle an existing fanbase. The sweeping, melodramatic trailer sells the movie itself as the special event. Sure, it boldly trumpets its source material as the greatest love story of all time (#justice4TheLadyEve). However, its existence as an adaptation of a book you might have enjoyed remains secondary. Simplistically speaking, it’s Wuthering Heights filtered through pre-2018 Tumblr with scope, scale and style to spare. Is it faithful to the book? I can barely remember, as I preferred Rebecca back in the day. But the trailer is doing its job in making *this movie* appealing. Leave a comment

That’s because every year, Amazon pushes the start of its deals a little earlier. This is far from the first article you’ll come across about Black Friday deals, and it won’t be the last. But what’s different about our approach to Black Friday is that we’re pickier than most sites. When I sat down to consider Amazon’s Black Friday deals, I looked at a long list of factors, including: whether we’ve reviewed and recommended a product on MacStories, the percentage of the discount, the absolute dollar amount of the discount (which we can’t list due to Amazon rules), whether each deal beats past deals, and a bunch of other factors. What we’ve come up with is a list of a couple dozen excellent deals that will save you loads of money on everything from great holiday gifts to nerd staples like storage, networking gear, and upgrades to your computing setup. Every time I write one of these roundups, I inevitably run across even more great deals after the story has been published. So in addition to this

Hackman had been living with Alzheimer’s and depended on Arakawa as his full-time caregiver. Disturbingly, postmortem data suggests that Arakawa died of complications from pulmonary Hantavirus several days before her husband passed. The discordant times of death point to a grim scenario: Hackman was left alone and helpless, trapped in his home after his wife’s death. The couple’s story, while shocking, is not unique. It serves as a warning for our rapidly aging society. The U.S. population is aging, but most Americans are not adequately planning to meet the needs of older adulthood. As a geriatric physician and medical educator, I care for older adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. My research and clinical work focus on dementia and surrogate decision-making. In my experience, regardless of race, education or socioeconomic status, there are some universal challenges that all people face with aging and there are steps everyone can take to prepare. Aging is inevitable but unpredictable Aging is an unpredictable, highly individualized process that varies

Social media platforms and websites are constantly working to improve security protocols in order to protect their users from malicious activities, hackers, and data breaches. Tumblr, following the lead of social media giants such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, has officially upped its security game. Tumblr introduced SSL encryption in a recent update. This offers users an additional layer of security while browsing or interacting on the platform. This new feature, however, is not enabled by default. Users must manually activate it in the account settings. Anyone using Tumblr today must understand what this feature is, why it’s important, and how it will affect their experience. This blog will explain the benefits of Tumblr’s optional SSL encryption. We’ll also discuss compatibility issues, such as XKit plugins, and give you tips on how to enjoy Tumblr safely. Understanding SSL Encryption SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a protocol for security that encrypts data sent between your web browser and the server of a website. This encryption prevents hackers and malicious third parties from intercepting sensitive information such as passwords or personal details. Tumblr Introduces Optional SSL Encryption You’ll

Although most would agree that Act 1 of the long-running stage musical is superior to Act 2, I never thought the second half was bad. It features some of the story’s best songs, including As Long as You’re Mine and No Good Deed. While Defying Gravity might’ve been the showstopper, For Good is the emotional climax that always triggers the waterworks. Act 2 has multiple tear-jerking moments, as well as a few sure to receive applause. The same can be said about this screen adaptation, which has all of its stage counterpart’s pros. That said, the issues with Act 2 haven’t been erased from Wicked: For Good. Some elements are improved upon, such as one of the more dated moments involving Nessa (Marissa Bode). Yet, other characters, like Ethan Slater’s Boq, still fall by the wayside in the end. A lot happens in a relatively short amount of time, with some key moments happening off-screen. That’s probably the biggest hurdle to overcome. The first film had breathing
