Warner Music Close to Netflix Deal That Would Create Movies Around the Label’s Superstars: Report

At a conference on Wednesday (Oct. 8), Warner CEO Robert Kyncl said "it makes a lot of sense" to strike such a partnership, without naming the streaming giant. FALLON/AFP via Getty Images Trending on Billboard If you thought we were at peak biopic, you may have been wrong — as a new deal suggests you should probably expect many more films and documentaries about music legends in the future.   Warner Music Group (WMG) is “close to an agreement” with Netflix to create movies and documentaries based on the company’s artists and songs, according to Bloomberg . WMG, which shut down its internal division that produced film and TV shows earlier this year and is looking to outsource that work, the report claimed.    Related Speaking at the Bloomberg Screentime conference on Wednesday (Oct. 8), WMG CEO Robert Kyncl did not confirm a pending partnership but laid out numerous reasons why the company should work with a global streaming platform. “Our company has a tremendous catalog: Prince, Madonna, Fleetwood Mac,” Kyncl said. “It just goes on and on and on.

Roofman Review | Flickreel

If you asked me fifteen years ago if I thought Channing Tatum would still be making movies into the next decade, the answer would’ve been “no.” Keep in mind that Tatum’s most high-profile roles up to that point were Step Up and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. With his subsequent films, Tatum proved to have real range as a comedic performer (21 Jump Street), dramatic actor (Foxcatcher), and someone who should’ve gotten their own X-Men movie (Deadpool & Wolverine). You can’t always judge a book by its cover. How fitting that Tatum would give one of his best performances in Roofman, a film that isn’t entirely what it seems. It tells the true story of Jeffrey Manchester (Tatum), a retired soldier who wants to provide his children with nice things. While Manchester has a head on his shoulders, he chooses to put his mind toward crime. He makes a living robbing McDonald’s restaurants by entering through the roof, earning the nickname “the Roofman.” The authorities eventually catch up to Manchester, and the judge throws the book at him. Although he’s sentenced to 45 years, it isn’t long until Manchester flies the coop, crashing in a Toys “R” Us while

Diddy Approved for Drug Rehab Program in Prison: Could It Lead to a Shorter Sentence?

Graduates of the treatment program can shave up to a year off their prison sentences — but there's a catch. Sean "Diddy" Combs attends Day 1 of 2023 Invest Fest at Georgia World Congress Center on August 26, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. Paras Griffin/Getty Images Sean “Diddy” Combs has gotten a judge’s approval to participate in the federal prison system’s in-house drug abuse rehab program while serving his sentence for prostitution crimes. Judge Arun Subramanian said in a Wednesday (Oct. 8) order that Combs qualifies for the Bureau of Prisons’ Residential Drug Abuse Program, known as RDAP. Combs, who has been in a pretrial jail facility since his arrest last year, was sentenced last week to another three years in prison for orchestrating drug-fueled sex marathons known as “freak-offs” between his girlfriends and male escorts. Related While the rapper has vehemently denied that his freak-offs violated federal law, his lawyers conceded during trial that he “obviously has a drug problem.” Combs’ team wrote in a recent letter to the court that the nine-month treatment program would help him “address drug abuse issues,” and prosecutors took no position on the matter. Combs has not yet been assigned a prison to serve

Andra Day & Ex-Manager Lawsuits: Pair Sue Each Other in Money Fight – Billboard

The eye-popping allegations are part of two new lawsuits between the singer and her longtime manager, Jeff Evans. Andra Day at the BET Awards 2025 held at the Peacock Theater on June 09, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. Christopher Polk Trending on Billboard Andra Day and her manager of more than a decade are dramatically parting ways with a pair of dueling new lawsuits, each accusing the other of hoarding more than their fair share of royalty payments. Day (Cassandra Monique Batie) began working with manager Jeff Evans in 2010, five years before the success of her debut Grammy-nominated album, Cheers to the Fall, and its breakout single, “Rise Up.” The two remained in business together for years, but their relationship deteriorated over a series of financial disputes that have now ended up in court. Related Evans was the first to sue, claiming in a complaint submitted on Monday (Oct. 6) in Los Angeles court that Day is refusing to honor contract provisions that entitle him to a 40% royalty on her publishing and a 20% commission on other profits. The Evans lawsuit alleges that Day has withheld this money since 2024. He wants a judge to declare that he’s

I Spent a Day Scrolling on Sora. The Music Industry Should Pay Attention. – Billboard

OpenAI is taking on TikTok with an AI video generator and social app. Could it spell the end to digital marketing, social media and rights management as we know it? In this photo illustration, The Sora 2 logo is displayed on a smartphone with an Open AI logo in the background. SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images Trending on Billboard Ronald McDonald DJing a Boiler Room set. SpongeBob flexing to phonk music while standing beside a sports car. Donkey Kong rapping about his bench presses. This is the weird new world of Sora 2, a generative video platform from OpenAI that doubles as a short-form social media app. Launched on Tuesday (Sept. 30) on an invite-only basis, this app is essentially TikTok — except everything is fake. And while it would be easy to dismiss it as just an “AI slop machine,” as many detractors have, it could also prove to be the future of social media — and a majorly disruptive force in the music industry. It’s clear from just a few minutes on the app that Sora uses a lot of music to score its videos. What’s not clear is if Sora has struck any licensing agreements with the

‘SNL’ Video, ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Sing ‘Golden,’ Bad Bunny – TVLine

The KPop Demon Hunters phenomenon is everywhere these days — even on Saturday Night Live . The mega-hit Netflix movie was at the center of a sketch in Saturday’s SNL season premiere, with host Bad Bunny playing a man named Thomas who was obsessed with the movie. In fact, he even labeled his brunch companions “stupid dummies” for not being as obsessed as he was. But he was comforted by the fact that “I have Huntr/x on my side,” imagining the band from the movie singing the chart-topping song “Golden,” with the real singers — Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami — popping up in his fantasy. While his brunch mates insisted on talking about other subjects, Thomas screamed out in terror as the demon Jinu (played here by Bowen Yang) popped in to demand their souls — and to sing “Soda Pop,” which turned one of Thomas’ friends into a drooling demon. They were all saved, though, when Huntr/x joined them at the brunch table to sing “Golden,” complete with backup dancers. Press PLAY below to watch the sketch in full, and give this week’s SNL a grade in our poll.
