Since Georgia was founded, many cities have been incorporated, and counties have been reconfigured or dissolved. Roswell was once part of Cobb County. The current Fulton County was created first by splitting the original Dekalb County into two counties, then later dissolving Campbell County (south Fulton) and Milton County (north Fulton). While digging through old newspapers on the Georgia Historic Newspapers database, we came across a story about an attempt by a group of Acworth residents to break away from Cobb County and form a new county along with Kennesaw, Mars Hill, and parts of several other counties. The report on this effort was from the December 2, 1907 edition of the Atlanta Georgian. Here’s the text of the article, slightly reformatted to make it more readable: Acworth, Ga., Dec. 2—Citizens of Acworth and the surrounding vicinity are planning to ask the next legislature for a new county, with Acworth as the county seat. They will base their petition on the grounds that in the section surrounding the town, the road work

She was already Tumblr royalty, so similarly conquering pop didn’t seem too far out of reach. The young artist set herself apart with an elaborately planned narrative that accompanied the record and pulled fans into another world. Each detail was immaculate and intentional, which is why listeners have wondered for an entire decade about whatever happened at the end of the “New Americana” music video, when Halsey awakes in the desert with the haunting chords of “Drive” blaring over the scene. As the musician celebrates the 10th anniversary of Badlands, they’re finally ready to catch everyone up to speed. “Today we kick it into gear, are you ready?” Halsey asked on X earlier today, hours before unveiling the Badlands anniversary trailer, which previews a double feature centered around album deep cuts (and live show favorites) “Drive” and “Gasoline.” A date hasn’t been set for the release, but Halsey writes that the feature is “coming soon.” In the trailer, we see the return of Tyler Posey, who appeared in the music video for Badlands single “Colors.” With blue-haired Halsey back in

It all began on Wednesday when Del Rey posted a preview of a new song on Instagram that literally calls out Cain: “Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post/ Think it’s cute reenacting my Chicago pose.” Del Rey continues: “Hard to roll in slow motion/ Hard to say no to precaution/ Hard to stop when it’s like an ocean/ Not afraid to say I’m going down in flames.” Immediately, the terminally online fans of both artists began posting explanations about how the reference has something to do with Del Rey and Cain’s respective ties to Jack Donoghue, a songwriter, rapper, producer, and the co-founder of S4Lem. In 2022, Del Rey shared a photograph of herself and Donoghue posing outside Cook County Jail (I don’t know, man), amid rumors they were dating. Shortly after, Cain reportedly posted a photo of herself with Donoghue on Twitter, then deleted it. Later on in the song, Del Rey purs: “The most famous girl at the Waffle House/ I don’t regret it/

In June, the brand partnered for the first time with the LA Phil to present the Blue Note Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl (formerly known as the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival and, before that, the long-running Playboy Jazz Festival). Now tonight (Aug. 14), the brand will celebrate the grand opening of its new club in Los Angeles. Related To jumpstart the grand opening, a private VIP party was held at Blue Note Los Angeles last evening (Aug. 13). Calling the occasion “an historic night,” Blue Note Entertainment Group president Steven Bensusan added, “It’s been a long time coming.” Both he and his brother, Blue Note Entertainment Group COO Tsion Bensusan, thanked all involved in bringing the club to fruition — and also introduced their father Danny, who opened the first Blue Note Jazz Club in New York in 1981. Rounding out the evening, artist Robert Glasper and surprise guests — among them Ledisi, Lalah Hathaway and Terrace Martin — performed before an audience that included Dr. Dre, veteran music industry executives Jimmy Iovine and Don Was and Abbot Elementary’s

Billy Joel takes a bow at his 150th Madison Square Garden show on July 25, 2024 in New York City. Myrna M. Suarez/Getty Images Madison Square Garden Entertainment reported a 74% decline in profit for its full fiscal year on Wednesday (Aug. 13), as the company struggled with fewer concerts at its iconic New York venue, the Garden, and the end of Billy Joel‘s decade-long residency. MSG Entertainment’s reported net income, the profitability metric often called the bottom line, fell to $37.4 million for fiscal 2025 from $144.3 million in fiscal 2024, while total revenue declined 2% to $947.2 million. The company’s share price was down more than 10% at 2 p.m. ET. Related Although MSG reported holding more than 975 concerts, family shows and sports events for around 6 million ticketholders across its five venues in fiscal 2025, MSG Entertainment CFO David Collins said the end of Joel’s MSG residency on July 25, 2024 — which had him playing the Garden once a month beginning in January 2014 — contributed to the year-over-year decline in concerts
