Logo text Iain Stirling, the voice behind Love Island USA, swears all his jokes on the hit Peacock reality series come “from a place of love.” The comedian has been narrating the U.K. version of Love Island for 10 years, and the U.S. version since season four. And while he enjoys getting to see the episodes before the world does and writing jokes for them, it doesn’t come without its challenges. “I’m sort of glad I live in the U.K. because I wouldn’t have the willpower to not tell loads of people what’s going down on Love Island today. After pushing the TikTok sale date back yet again, President Donald Trump said in an interview on Sunday that he had found a potential buyer for the ByteDance-owned platform. Though the president said he will not reveal the identities of the buyers for another couple weeks, Bloomberg is reporting that the buyer is a group of investors from Oracle, Blackstone, and VC firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). According to the report, these investors had made a bid, but it lost momentum amid tensions between the U.S. and China due to Trump’s tariff proposals. Oracle has long been engaged with TikTok as part of its Project Texas initiative to make sure that U.S. user data is stored in the States.

The exec shared the news on The Verge’s Decoder podcast, published on Monday, saying that the project is “on hold” for an indefinite period. “What we decided is that we want to focus as much on the things that are going to be noticeable to users and that users are asking for,” he told the site. “This was more like an infrastructure thing, kind of like any big re-architecture. I still want to do it. It’s just cleaner. But right now, we’re not working on it.” The announcement also raises questions about what this means for Tumblr’s integration with the open social web, known as the fediverse. By migrating its infrastructure to WordPress, it would have become a federated app. Mullenweg admits that was one of the arguments for making the move, but hints that it’s no longer a priority. “…in the meantime, I think if there was a big push to implement fediverse, we would just do it on the Tumblr code base,” he

Relatedly, that also means pausing plans of integrating Tumblr into the fediverse. That news dropped Monday on the Decoder podcast from The Verge. When Ty Herndon wrapped his 10th and final Concert for Love and Acceptance on June 2, he delivered his first hit, the 1995 release “What Mattered Most,” then broke into an a cappella version of the classic hymn “How Great Thou Art.” A gospel song isn’t necessarily expected at an event celebrating the LGBTQ community, but Herndon grew up singing church music in Alabama, and he had reason to be thankful. When he gave the first Love and Acceptance show in 2015, Billy Gilman was the only other gay artist on the bill. The rest of the lineup consisted of straight artists offering their support as allies.  For the 2025 edition, the onstage contingent was much larger, and there were even more queer country artists in the audience. Over the 10-year run of Herndon’s annual show, the volume of out-and-proud gay country artists has increased significantly, as has the ability for them to earn a living while telling their authentic story.
