It's been quieter than usual on Shacknews Twitch in terms of retro gaming this week but tonight I'm back in the business of nostalgic Nintendo 64 livestreaming. The journey known as skankcore64 continues with more Paper Mario at 9 p.m. PT/ 12 a.m. ET as I try to complete every N64 game released in North America. Antecedently on skankcore64, I started off the stream with just a few more favors from old Koopa Koot. A Twitch streamer transformed his GTA NoPixel character into WWE’s Undertaker and the result was absolutely incredible, even by RP standards. The Undertaker is perhaps the most iconic wrestler of all time aside from Hulk Hogan. Mark Calaway’s gimmick of an undead zombified man with mystical powers joining a wrestling federation of all things somehow managed to captivate audiences worldwide for multiple years. As such, having such a figure in the NoPixel’s GTA RP server is the stuff of nightmares, but streamer BigSkenger managed to pull off the deadman’s persona perfectly. On August 10, BigSkenger decided to redesign his character and equip him with all the Undertaker essentials – the hat, trench coat, black tights, and even his hair. Without any shadow of a doubt, he had become death incarnate. Twitch has a host of problems it needs to sort through, but one of the most pressing involves an increasing frequency of hate raids towards streamers. Twitch drama seems to be a constant in the world of livestreaming, but the most recent incident goes beyond petty arguments between streamers or inexplicable bans. Although it has always been an issue, the frequency and intensity of "hate raids" towards marginalized streamers (ie. people of color and members of the LGBTQIA+ community) has been drastically increasing in recent weeks, and Twitch hasn't done much about it. This has prompted streamers to get the hashtag #TwitchDoBetter trending on Twitter. As more and more streamers join the movement, it's likely that Twitch will address it in some way. The problem is exacerbated by the way that Twitch streamers are treated by the platform. While streamers aren't typically treated maliciously there are widespread complaints about lack of communication and an unfair payment system. The twitch star received the ban and a DMCA strike from Disney after allegedly watching Marvel movies on stream.   Froste gained quite the following while part of The Mob, a group of content creators and friends that produced some legendary content. After years of searching for relevance, Splitgate has finally built a following of players by relaunching the game with the selling point of being a PvP title crossing Halo and Portal. Since its original release as Splitgate: Arena Warfare back in May 2019, the first-person shooter hasn’t had the type of popularity developer 1047 Games had in mind. The UK and Ireland are the latest to get Twitch’s local sub pricing. Twitch's local sub pricing continues to make its way around the globe as the price decrease has finally hit Europe. Fans can now show their support to their favorite streamers at a lower cost. Tier 1, the most affordable Twitch streamer subscription, is set at $4.99 USD. The price is translated into local currencies around the world. However, according to Twitch, this has made subscribing “...not equally affordable around the world...”, which is directly reflected in the amount of paid subscribers in different regions. Twitch states that “active users in Europe or Asia who support creators with a subscription is roughly 50% lower relative to North America. In Latin America, it’s nearly 80% lower.” To combat this, Twitch began rolling out local sub pricing - an adjustment of the price of subscriptions based on geographical location. This will include new and existing subs, as well as gifted subs.
