By Carl Blankenship carl.blankenship@salisburypost.com SALISBURY — The Rowan-Salisbury Schools Board of Education will receive an update on the results of a pay study commissioned for classified employees during its Monday meeting. The meeting will be held virtually. It will begin at 4:30 p.m. and can be viewed live at vimeo.com/rssboe. Anyone who wants to participate in the public comment period at the meeting must register by 3 p.m. on Monday by emailing board clerk Sonya Mulkey at mulkeysh@rss.k12.nc.us. The pay study was completed earlier this year by the firm HIL Consultants. It provided updated salary grades and created 30-step pay scales based on comparable pay in the market. The district’s human resources department looked at the recommendations in the study and made adjustments based on changes made by neighboring districts this summer, according to Monday’s agenda documents. If the state passes a draft budget setting the minimum wage for state employees to $13, that would increase the district’s current minimum pay of $11.66. New pay scales were set to make the lowest paid position $13 per hour based on that potential bump. That increase alone would bump up the district’s current minimum of $11.66 per hour for state-funded employees. Most…

By Melissa Angell (September 24, 2021, 9:44 PM EDT) -- The Second Circuit on Friday affirmed dismissal of Church United's claim that Vimeo discriminated by deleting its account over videos promoting gay conversion, saying the mere fact Vimeo didn't remove other videos with references to LGBTQ sexual orientation isn't enough to show discriminatory intent.Though the church and its pastor, James Domen, argued that they sufficiently alleged discriminatory intent since they purportedly identified similar videos on the platform that were not deleted, the panel didn't buy into that argument and ruled that Church United failed to state a discrimination claim."The allegations about these 'similar videos' in the amended complaint are... by Wendy Davis  @wendyndavis, 8 hours ago A federal appellate panel has taken the extremely rare step of issuing a third opinion in a lawsuit brought by “former homosexual” James Domen against Vimeo over its decision to remove his videos. The new opinion, like the prior two rulings, sided with the online video platform. But in the latest decision, issued Friday, the judges sidestepped what has become a controversial and politically charged question: Whether Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act protects web services like Vimeo from discrimination claims rooted in content-moderation decisions.Instead, the appellate judges said for the first time that they didn't need to rule on questions about Section 230 because Domen's complaint didn't have the kind of factual allegations that would prove intentional discrimination by Vimeo.“Because appellants’ complaint fails to plausibly plead a claim for discrimination under the state statutes there is no need to consider Vimeo’s defense that such claims are pre-empted under Section 230,” the judges wrote.advertisementadvertisementIn their prior two decisions, the judges agreed with Vimeo that Section 230 shielded it from Domen's lawsuit.Section 230, which dates to 1996, broadly immunizes web publishers from liability for users' posts, including ones that are defamatory. The law also protects…

Related ArticleEl Phantasmo Returns And Aids Fellow Bullet Club Members During 9/23 Episode Of IMPACT Wrestling Everybody's close to Big E, he's the world's nicest man. Yeah, I'm one of them. I'm all for him. I mean, I've tried not to say too much, probably, because technically, I have been waiting for Lashley to lose the title, so I can instantly challenge for it. But I'm gonna let Big E have his moment, mostly, too, because I, like everybody else on planet Earth, am genuinely happy for him. Sometimes the good guys do win and he's the nicest guy in the world. He is such an incredible athlete, and he's paid his dues, so it's really cool to see them have that title and have that moment. by Alex Billington September 23, 2021Source: Vimeo "Have you forgotten? Or are you just afraid?" Dekanalog Releasing has debuted an official US trailer for an acclaimed Taiwanese horror film titled Detention, directed by John Hsu. This originally opened in Taiwan back in 2019, and is finally showing in the US after playing at various festivals - including Fantasia, Busan, and the New York Asian Film Festival last year. Set in 1962 in Taiwan, during the time of the White Terror. Martial law is in full force. In a time of extreme repression, all ideas considered to be dissident are banned, and the culprits are tortured or executed. Adapted from a video game, based on true events, this "masterful debut from director & co-writer John Hsu creates at once a shocking historical drama, melancholy coming-of-age tale + nightmarish horror film that recalls the masterworks of Guillermo del Toro, and with enough blood, striking sound design, art direction, and special effects to evoke the best of Silent Hill." The film stars Gingle Wang, Fu Meng-po, Tseng Ching-hua, Cecilia Choi, & Hung Chang Chu. Horror fans have been raving about it for a while and now it's finally getting a theatrical release here.…
