Snapchat: Don’t Rush to Buy This Social Media Stock | The Motley Fool

It's been a tough ride for long-term Snap (SNAP +3.17%) investors. Once touted as a close rival to Meta Platforms' Instagram, the relatively small social media company remains unprofitable and is down by more than 30% year to date. Investors who are betting on a turnaround may want to cut their losses and review other investment opportunities. Growth is slow and profits are nonexistent Snap's revenue trajectory does not reflect what investors have come to expect from unprofitable, high-stakes companies. The social media company only has an annualized 8.8% revenue growth rate over the past three years. That's much lower than Meta Platforms' 19.9% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the same stretch. Today's Change Current Price It's impossible to even compare the two tech companies anymore. A few years ago, investors would look at Snap's earnings to gauge how Meta Platforms would perform, and vice versa. Few investors do that anymore. Meta Platforms earned more than $200 billion in revenue over the past year, while Snapchat generated less than $10 billion over the same stretch. Image source: Getty Images. The better comparison is Pinterest, but even then, it grows faster and actually makes a profit. Snap reported an $89

Snap, YouTube, TikTok Settle Tech Addiction Case. There’s Still One Holdout

Snap, YouTube, and TikTok owner ByteDance have agreed to settle a lawsuit accusing the platforms of causing addiction, disrupting learning, and forcing schools to spend large sums on student mental health support. According to Bloomberg, payout terms were not disclosed. Bloomberg Intelligence estimates that comparable lawsuits could expose tech companies to a “collective theoretical liability” of almost $400 billion. Meta will continue to fight the case; a trial begins on June 12 in California. The Breathitt County School District in rural Kentucky sued the tech firms in 2024, accusing them of failing to implement robust age-verification processes and effective parental controls. It also accused them of not implementing opt-in restrictions on the length and frequency of usage, creating barriers that make it more difficult for users to delete or deactivate their accounts, and using algorithms to promote addictive engagement. The schools claimed this led to staff spending time on confiscating cell phones and other devices, as well as hiring additional staff to support student mental health and counseling. “This matter has been amicably resolved, and our focus remains on building age-appropriate products and parental controls that deliver on that promise,” YouTube told Reuters. Snap provided a similar statement. The news comes after Snap

Arshdeep Singh Faces Backlash Over Snapchat Post, PBKS Break Silence – Yardbarker

Arshdeep Singh found himself in a bit of heat after a Snapchat thing showed up before Punjab Kings’ IPL 2026 clash vs Mumbai Indians. So you know, he posted a story earlier, a picture with Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma, and then he used the word “andhera” , which people immediately started throwing shade at him about. After that, the talk went big online, like really fast. Many fans accused him of saying something racist, and the whole thing became a full-on discussion point across social media. And then, as the criticism kept building, Punjab Kings finally stepped in with a public response, just to cool it down. Punjab Kings’ head of sports science, Andrew Leipus, brought it up during a press conference. He basically said that inside the dressing room, Arshdeep’s mindset is still normal, like nothing “real” has changed even with all the noise outside. Andrew Leipus said: “I don't follow a lot of social media myself, so I know there's been a bit of chatter behind the scenes of various things going on, vlogging and whatnot. I'm not across that. In terms of his behaviour, Arsh is pretty much a flat line. He's not up or down.”

India and Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh has landed in fresh controversy after a Snapchat exchange with a fan triggered another round of backlash on social media. The left-arm fast bowler, who has already faced criticism this IPL season over remarks made in viral videos, is once again under scrutiny for his conduct online. Let’s focus on tomorrow’s match.” pic.twitter.com/VPX9hkg6nP— EpicCommentsTelugu (@EpicCmntsTelugu) May 14, 2026 Arshdeep, widely regarded as one of the more popular young cricketers among fans because of his candid vlogs and dressing-room interactions, has endured a turbulent few weeks off the cricket field. The latest controversy erupted after screenshots of his response to a fan began circulating widely online. The incident comes days after Arshdeep was criticised for remarks directed at Tilak Varma in a video recorded ahead of Punjab Kings’ IPL clash against Mumbai Indians. Instagram’s new ‘Instants’ feature combines elements from Snapchat and BeReal

Instagram announced on Wednesday that it’s globally launching “Instants,” a new feature for sharing authentic, disappearing photos after testing it with select users. The feature lets users share disappearing photos with their Close Friends or mutual followers that can be viewed only once and remain available for 24 hours. The app borrows ideas from social platforms like Snapchat, Locket, and BeReal, as it focuses on authentic and ephemeral content. Unlike Instagram, which is about curated and polished content, Instants is designed for quick, real-life snapshots. With Instants, you capture a photo with Instagram’s in-app camera and aren’t allowed to edit the image. The format doesn’t allow uploads from your camera, and, although you can add text to your “instants,” you can’t modify them any further. Meta said in a blog post that the idea behind this format is to share authentic moments as they’re happening. It’s worth noting that Meta is also testing the Instants format as a standalone app in select regions, including Spain and Italy. You can capture an Instant by tapping the mini photo stack in the bottom right corner of your Instagram inbox. After you share your Instant, recipients can react with emojis, reply, and send

Snapchat AR Developer Bootcamp: What It Means for Specs in 2026 – ALM Corp

Snap has taken another concrete step toward turning its AR glasses strategy into a broader platform story. Its recent AR developer bootcamp was not just a community event, and it was not just a product teaser. It was a signal that Snap is investing in the people, tools, and workflows needed to make augmented reality more useful, more social, and more commercially relevant as it moves toward the public launch of Specs in 2026. That matters because hardware alone rarely wins in emerging technology. Ecosystems do. The companies that succeed in new computing categories usually combine three things: capable devices, software tools that developers can actually work with, and enough real use cases to convince people that the product solves a meaningful problem. Snap’s bootcamp sits right at the center of that equation. The event brought together a hand-picked group of active Spectacles developers at Snap’s Santa Monica headquarters for direct access to the teams building the platform. On the surface, that sounds like a familiar developer-relations play. In practice, it tells a larger story. Snap is trying to shorten the distance between product roadmap, developer feedback, and real-world AR experiences. That is how platforms mature. Instead of treating developers
