Cheerleading loomed large in Isabelle Johnston’s youth and college years. She cheered all four years of high school, two in college and on competition teams. Her mom is a cheer coach and her husband was a cheerleader, too. Whether she was cheering for Salt Lake’s West High, on a competition team or the two years she cheered for Boise State University, Johnston was required to sign agreements that spelled out the schools’ or clubs’ expectations such as maintaining a certain grade point average, eschewing alcohol and prohibitions on posting images on social media that could reflect poorly on the team or organization, she said. Johnston said she didn’t think too much about the agreements she signed because “I understood that I tried out for a team and if I made the team there would be certain expectations I had to uphold.” Most of her teammates followed the rules, although one of her college teammates got a warning from a coach over her social media posts. “She had been photographed at parties with alcohol, which is a no-no for college cheer. The coach was like, ‘You have one more chance. If it happens again, you’re off the team.’ I felt like…

The parent of a popular social media app is planning to more than double the size of its office in Chicago and move it to a new Fulton Market District building, while a fast-growing Chicago-based transportation logistics firm has an even larger deal lined up to join them. In one of two leases that are close to being finalized at 167 N. Green St., Santa Monica, Calif.-based Snap is in advanced talks to lease about 25,000 square feet at the 17-story building, according to sources familiar with the deal. Snap, best known for its disappearing photo and message app Snapchat, would relocate its local office there from a boutique office building the company leases today at 648 N. Clark St. in River North. In the other deal, third-party logistics provider MoLo Solutions is nearing a lease of more than 93,000 square feet in the building, where it would relocate from the roughly 33,000 square feet it leases today nearby at 120 N. Racine Ave., sources close to the discussions said. The negotiations are poised to add to the recent leasing streak in the trendy former meatpacking district, despite an ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has kept deal activity relatively sluggish elsewhere downtown, with office…

Snapchat is still kicking among under 25s in the UK – despite TikTok’s surge in popularity. The OG camera-messaging app still pulls in millions of daily users – and data site Statista says Snapchat’s own 2021 figures put that number at an eye-watering 293 million. Though we love a good 30-second TikTok dance, sending funny or filtered photos and videos – which disappear seconds after they’ve been viewed – never gets old. On Snapchat, you can also show off your location with GeoFilters, check out your astrological profile, or document your day with 24-hour-long Snapchat Stories (a concept later released by Instagram). Reckon you fancy joining the youth of today on yet another app? Prepare yourself: there are a lot of acronyms and terms floating about, and you should probably know how to use ’em. Snapchat slang, acronyms, terminology and their meanings SMO: OK, so this one really depends on the context. SMO could mean Serious Mode On (meaning you’re feeling or talking about something in a non-jokey way). It could also mean Shout Me Out (perhaps meaning you want someone to give you a social media shout out). Though, if you’re getting on a bit and are seeing this…
