Snapchat users will soon need to pay to keep their digital memories safe. Snapchat is putting a price tag on nostalgia. Nearly a decade after introducing its Memories feature, the social app is now capping free storage at 5GB, marking the end of unlimited cloud space for saved Snaps. The company confirmed that users who exceed the 5GB limit will need to either export their Memories or subscribe to one of its new paid storage plans. In an email to TechCrunch, Snapchat said the base plan will offer 100GB of storage for $1.99 per month. Snapchat+ subscribers, who already pay $3.99 monthly, will get access to 250GB, while Snapchat Platinum users on the $15.99 plan will receive up to 5TB of storage. For those who do not upgrade, Snapchat will automatically delete the most recent Snaps once the storage limit is reached, keeping only the oldest ones. (KTUL) — A former Tulsa County detention officer has been arrested following allegations he used social media to exploit minors and rape a teenage girl. Police say 30-year-old Glenn Fiifi Coussey Garbrah contacted a 15-year-old on Snapchat, offering money in exchange for explicit photos. Investigators say the teen reported that Garbrah later picked her up on July 31 and sexually assaulted her in his vehicle. Detectives allege Garbrah used multiple Snapchat accounts to exchange sexual content, including with at least three other minors between the ages of 15 and 16. At the time of the alleged crimes, Garbrah was employed as a detention officer at the Tulsa County Jail. He has since been charged with first-degree rape and possession of child pornography. He was booked into the same jail where he once worked. Police say the investigation is ongoing and urge anyone with information to contact the Special Victims Unit at (918) 596-9168.

The Turtle Lake School District said the alleged shooter is a former student. BARRON, Wis. — A homicide investigation is underway after one person was killed and another was wounded at a residence in western Wisconsin. A local school district is also urgently warning parents that a video of the incident is allegedly online.   According to the Barron County Sheriff's Office, agencies responded to a shots-fired call at an address on Candy Lane in the city of Barron. There, a man was found dead and a woman was wounded. The suspect was also hurt with what was described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officials said there is no public threat.  The sheriff's office said it is aware of a video on Snapchat "involving this homicide" and is working to get the video removed. The School District of Turtle Lake said that the alleged shooter is a former student, and "apparently shared a graphic video of the shooting on Snapchat," and that some students might have seen the video. Parents are encouraged to talk to their kids and the district said the school counselor will be available to talk to students.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for South Dakota announced the sentencing of 47-year-old James Kooima. He was ordered to serve 15 years in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release. His sentence also requires him to register as a sex offender and pay special assessments and fines of $12,500. Prosecutors say that Kooima, a former soccer coach in the Sioux Falls area, used Snapchat to befriend a 14-year-old girl from Maine in 2023 and accuse Kooima of convincing the teen that they were in a romantic relationship. Court documents say Kooima coerced her into recording and sending explicit videos of herself through Snapchat. Kooima was indicted in August 2024 on one count of “production of child pornography,” to which he entered a guilty plea in May
