How we made Vimeo up to 1.7 times faster

Our users told us Vimeo was too slow. So we mapped every slow moment in the product—from opening the home page to uploading a video—scored each one by how many users it impacted, then started fixing them in order. Here’s what we’ve done so far. What you see now loads first Previously, Vimeo loaded everything on a page at once—regardless of how important it was. This could mean the videos you expected to see were queuing behind background elements, most of which weren't even visible. But now, the content you can actually see loads first. Background processes run after. As a result, your homepage now loads up to 41% faster. Manage video pages now load up to 39% faster.* Smaller files upload first Previously, video uploads processed one at a time, depending on the order you uploaded them in. So 10 short clips could easily get stuck behind one hour-long video. So we rebuilt the upload flow to run in parallel. Your videos appear as soon as they're ready, so you can start editing straight away. Parallel uploads have cut up to a quarter off total upload time.* Search prioritizes what you actually need For users with large libraries, search

Why ShinyHunters hacked Canvas, Vimeo- Inside the group’s ‘pay or leak’ strategy

Canvas was reportedly down for thousands of users on Thursday and a message from hacking group ShinyHunters was allegedly displayed on the screen. ShinyHunters is being linked to attacks on Canvas, Vimeo and more. (Pexel) The cyberattack is the latest incident linked to ShinyHunters, a hacking and extortion group that has recently been tied to attacks involving Canvas, Vimeo and Pornhub as part of what experts describe as a broader “pay or leak” strategy. Who is ShinyHunters? ShinyHunters is a cybercriminal group that has been active since around 2019-2020. Their method is straightforward: break into a company's systems, steal customer data and then demand a ransom payment. If the company refuses, the hackers publish the stolen data online. This approach has often called "pay or leak" has made them one of the more feared hacking groups operating today. Over the years, the group has been tied to breaches at Ticketmaster, Rockstar Games, Salesforce, Qantas and several other major companies, according to Newsweek. In 2024, the US Department of Justice sentenced a member connected to the group, who had put stolen data from more than 60 companies up for sale on dark web forums. ShinyHunters Strikes Again: The Hackers Behind the Rockstar Breach Just Hit Vimeo Too

If you’re a Vimeo user, you might want to start monitoring your online accounts and maybe even change your password. This is because Vimeo has recently disclosed a data breach, which unfortunately resulted in personal information belonging to 119,000 people being exposed. Vimeo confirms recent data breach For those unfamiliar, back in April, Vimeo confirmed it was a victim of a data breach. It wasn’t the result of hackers breaching its systems, but rather the systems of Anodot, a data anomaly detection company. However, as a result of that breach, personal data belonging to 119,000 people were stolen. According to Have I Been Pwned, it seems that this was the work of hacking group ShinyHunters. If the name sounds familiar, it is because the group has been behind a spate of hacks in recent months. This includes Rockstar Games, which suffered a breach via a third-party provider. A company called Aura, which sells data theft protection, was also another victim. Vimeo says, “Our initial findings suggest that the databases accessed primarily contain technical data, video titles and metadata, and, in some cases, customer email addresses.” The company is also reassuring users that this data breach did not access customer login

Cursed surfboard horror Plankenstein released – Bloody Flicks

Killer surfboard feature Plankenstein has been released on Amazon Prime, Tubi, Pluto TV, Fandango, XUMO, Vimeo, and Bloodstream. In the picturesque beach town of Kailua, Oahu, an ancient Hawaiian curse awakens when a severed foot washes ashore — still attached to a peculiar surfboard with a wild boar’s tusk protruding from its nose. When the board enters a local surf shop’s rental quiver, a chain of horrific events unfolds. Captain Miller’s stepdaughter Lili, secret heir to the Hawaiian throne, returns home for summer — and Plankenstein, sensing her royal blood, begins a violent rampage targeting anyone who disrespects her. All victims share one suspicious trait: they ate pork before their deaths. As the annual Scary Cup Classic surf competition approaches, tensions explode — culminating in a psychedelicbonfire gone horribly wrong, a pork-fueled massacre at a paddle-out funeral, and a climactic ocean showdown where breaking the curse requires yanking the boar’s tusk from Plankenstein’s nose. The only survivor? The Elder — a vegan. And the ending will make you think twice before plugging a surfboard ding with a pork rib. (Yes, really.) After a sold-out red carpet world premiere on Oahu and successful theatrical runs across Hawaii and the mainland, Plankenstein

ShinyHunters’ Instructure Canvas LMS and Vimeo Breaches Impact Millions of Users

The infamous hacking group ShinyHunters has targeted two major technology firms, putting the personal details of millions of students and professionals at risk. The breaches hit Instructure, the US-based parent company behind the popular Canvas learning platform, and the video-hosting site Vimeo. Hackread.com has obtained the full list of affected institutions impacted by the Instructure data breach, and it is massive, indicating the vast scale of the theft and impacting around 15,000 institutions across the UK, Europe, and the US. Millions of Student Records Stolen from Canvas The attack on Instructure began on 30 April 2026. The company confirmed on 1 May that hackers exploited a vulnerability to gain access, forcing the company to shut down parts of its service, including Canvas Data 2 and Canvas Beta. This, in turn, caused problems for schools’ third-party integrations and external apps that rely on API keys (digital connectors) to function. “While we continue actively investigating, thus far, indications are that the information involved consists of certain identifying information of users at affected institutions, such as names, email addresses, and student ID numbers, as well as messages among users.” “At this time, we have found no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, government

Vimeo data breach exposes personal information of 119,000 users after Anodot incident

The video-sharing platform Vimeo has confirmed that it was affected by a data breach linked to a wider security incident involving the analytics company Anodot. The breach, which took place in April 2026, has now been reported to have impacted more than 119,000 individuals, according to new analysis published by the data breach notification service Have I Been Pwned? Vimeo initially informed users that a security incident had occurred after attackers gained access through third-party integration features. The intrusion was associated with the ShinyHunters hacking group, which is believed to have exploited access to Anodot’s cloud-based systems. These systems included Snowflake accounts used by customers, among them Vimeo. Anodot is an artificial intelligence-driven analytics platform designed to detect anomalies in business data in real time. Organisations use it to identify issues such as sudden drops in sales, unexpected increases in costs, or technical faults that could affect operations. In this case, however, the platform’s integration capabilities appear to have been used as an entry point for unauthorised access. At the time of disclosure, Vimeo stated that the attackers may have accessed technical data, video titles and related metadata. The company also noted that in some cases, customer email addresses might

ShinyHunters claims dump puts 119K Vimeo emails in the wild – The Register

More than 119,000 Vimeo users's email addresses were extracted in a breach traced to a third-party analytics vendor, according to Have I Been Pwned. The incident first surfaced in April when the ShinyHunters crew added Vimeo to its growing "pay or leak" hit list, claiming it had pulled hundreds of gigabytes of data and threatening to dump the lot unless a deal was struck. That dump has since landed, and breach notification service Have I Been Pwned now puts a number on at least part of the fallout: 119,000 unique email addresses, in some cases paired with names. Vimeo last week confirmed that data was taken, but stopped short of saying how many people were affected. The company pinned the incident on Anodot, a third-party analytics provider used across its systems, and said the attacker gained access via that integration rather than breaking into Vimeo directly. Anodot has not said anything publicly, but its status page shows the incident kicked off on April 4. According to Vimeo, the stolen databases were heavy on technical data, video titles, metadata, and some customer email addresses. The company has been keen to stress what was not included: no actual video content, no valid
