This malware predominantly targets users who communicate in Arabic and Azeri.When it comes to using social media apps like WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, some users like having additional features to improve their experience. These third-party mods are usually legal and can be found on the PlayStore.  There are many mods available for WhatsApp. The most popular WhatsApp mods include GBWhatsApp, which provides users the ability to run multiple accounts through the same app, more commonly known as ‘forking.’ WhatsApp Plus Mode is another example and is a very similar mod to GBWhatsApp. Not only does this mod add a lot of enhanced functionality to the existing app, it also carries the essential anti-ban feature which stops WhatsApp from revoking a user’s WhatsApp access. While there are many more WhatsApp mods available, a recent report from Kaspersky showed that some of these mods are also contaminated with hidden malware. In Meta’s WhatsApp, users can generate stickers using AI prompts. The Guardian reported Friday that the AI model used to create those stickers sometimes generates images of children holding guns when prompted with “Palestine” and similar words. Meanwhile, according to the outlet, “Israel” prompts resulted in no such imagery.A month ago, Meta’s AI sticker generator started rolling out with the tendency to create inappropriately violent or crass imagery, including, yes, child soldiers. According to the article, an unnamed source said some of the company’s workers had flagged and escalated the issue with prompts related to the war in Israel. Meta spokesperson Kevin McAlister told The Verge via email that the company is addressing it, adding that Meta will “continue to improve these features as they evolve and more people share their feedback.” Meta has had other issues with bias in its AI models, such as Instagram’s auto-translate feature inserting the word “terrorist” into user bios written in Arabic, echoing a Facebook mistranslation that led to a Palestinian man’s 2017 arrest in Israel.

A West Yorkshire Police (WYP) officer involved in a WhatsApp conversation where racist and misogynistic messages were shared has been dismissed without notice following a directed Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation.The investigation, carried out by WYP under our direction, looked at messages sent and received by PC Louis Hepplestone, who was based in Kirklees.We received a referral from the force after a separate directed IOPC investigation found evidence of concerning phone messages between PC Hepplestone and a colleague.As part of the separate investigation, messages were obtained from the phone of Detention Officer William Loyd-Hughes. He was sentenced earlier this year over offensive social media posts, including racist material. A disciplinary hearing subsequently found he would have been dismissed had he not already resigned.The messages obtained from the phone showed a WhatsApp conversation between Loyd-Hughes and PC Hepplestone, which began before they joined WYP.The evidence showed that even after becoming a police officer, PC Hepplestone failed to challenge offensive messages containing racists comments and a joke about rape. New Delhi: Meta-owned WhatsApp banned 71.1 lakh accounts during September in compliance with the IT rules, according to the latest India monthly report released by the popular messaging platform. Out of them, 25.7 lakh accounts were proactively banned before any reports from users. An Indian account is identified via the ‘+91’ country code. “Between 1 September, 2023 and 30 September 2023, 71,11,000 WhatsApp accounts were banned. 25,71,000 of these accounts were proactively banned, before any reports from users,” it said. The ‘user-safety report’ contains details of user complaints received and the corresponding action taken by WhatsApp as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive actions to combat abuse on the platform. Between September 1-30, the platform received six orders from the Grievance Appellate Committee, according to the report, and all six orders were complied with. WhatsApp had banned 74 lakh accounts in August and out of them, 35 lakh accounts had been proactively banned. WhatsApp, in its latest report, said it received 10,442 user reports spanning across account support (1,031), ban appeal (7,396), other support (1,518), product support (370) and safety (127) during September.
