The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria has lodged a suit against Meta Platforms Incorporated, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp platforms and its agent – AT3 Resources Limited – at the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division. This was disclosed in a statement by the highest regulatory body for Nigeria’s advertising, ARCON. ARCON is arguing that Meta Platforms Incorporated has continued to expose the Federal Government to loss of revenue adverts. It is seeking N30bn in sanction for the violation of the advertising laws and for loss of revenue. The statement read in part, “ARCON reiterates that it would not permit unethical and irresponsible advertising on Nigeria’s advertising space.”

The L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited (L&TMRHL) in a statement said that this is for the first time that WhatsApp ticketing has been launched by a metro rail in the Country. The Hyderabad Metro Rail has launched the initiative in association with Billeasy and AFC partner, ShellinfoGlobalsg, Singapore for the technology integration. The brand-new service enables the everyday Hyderabad commuter the option to travel seamlessly in Hyderabad Metro Rail. Commuters can now simply purchase an e-Ticket on their own WhatsApp number, which can be displayed at the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates to proceed for the journey. This facility is in addition to other digital modes of ticket booking viz. TSavaari and other third-party payment apps. WhatsApp banned over 23 lakh Indian accounts in the month of August 2022, in compliance with the new IT rules. The User Safety Monthly Report cited that around 10 lakh of the banned accounts were proactively banned, even before they were reported by users. The total number of banned accounts by WhatsApp in August is similar to that reported for the month of July. On the majority of the accounts, WhatsApp took action after receiving complaints from the users. WhatsApp said that it banned most of the accounts after receiving negative feedback from users via WhatsApp's "Report" feature. In addition, Meta-owned chat app got 598 grievance reports and it took action on 19 of the accounts. In total, it banned 2,328,000 Indian accounts between August 1-30.In its report, WhatsApp said that it was taking various steps to make the platform more secure and safe for its users. Along with offering multiple privacy features, the platform has a dedicated process to report abuse or other harmful things. Meta-owned WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out the ability to create polls to its users. According to a report by WaBetaInfo, some beta users are finally able to create polls within group chats thanks to the new WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.21.16 update. The report says that feature is not limited to group admins. Every member of the group can create a poll, it adds. Once a user creates a poll within WhatsApp chat, they will be able to add up to 12 options. These options can also be sorted as per user’s needs. After sharing the poll with other group participants, they can pick more than one option while voting, the report says. The poll gets automatically updated every time a new vote is added and reflects the new result. Users will be able to see more detailed information about who voted within the poll results screen by tapping “view votes”.
