PETALING JAYA: The Immigration Department has debunked a WhatsApp message on “Home Affairs officials” going from house-to-house and “robbing people”.It said that the message, which went viral recently again, is fake."The Immigration Department would like to stress that it is not true and it is done by irresponsible parties."The public is advised not to spread such fake news which would cause public outrage," it said in a statement on its Facebook page Sunday (July 11).The department also called on the public to report any doubtful information for action to be taken."Visit the department's website at https://www.imi.gov.my and its official Facebook account - Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia (https://www.facebook.com/imigresen) - to get the latest information from the department," it added.

Harish Salve, WhatsApp’s counsel, has pressed the pause button on a legal brawl by telling the Delhi High Court that the messaging service provider will not enforce its new ‘privacy policy and terms of service’ until the Personal Data Protection (PDP) Bill, 2019, becomes law. WhatsApp can afford to wait. A Joint Committee of the Parliament that is examining the PDP Bill was given more time to do its work in March this year – till the first week of the monsoon session of 2021 of the Parliament. An internal investigation revealed that the SD card may have been secretly shared with a known broadcaster. The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has launched an investigation after photos went public on WhatsApp on Thursday afternoon showing former president Jacob Zuma being attended by a correctional services officer in what looks like the medical wing of the Estcourt Correctional Centre in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. The former president handed himself to the Estcourt Correctional Centre on Wednesday night to start his 15-month prison sentence for contempt of court. The Constitutional Court sentenced the former president last week.  The Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture had approached the ConCourt on an urgent basis for an order that would compel Zuma to cooperate with the commission. After being ordered to appear before the commission, Zuma released a statement accusing the commission and the ConCourt of victimising him. He vowed he would rather go to jail than appear before the commission. Good-faith disagreements are a normal part of society and building strong relationships. Yet it’s difficult to engage in good-faith disagreements on the internet, and people reach less common ground online compared with face-to-face disagreements. There’s no shortage of research about the psychology of arguing online, from text versus voice to how anyone can become a troll and advice about how to argue well. But there’s another factor that’s often overlooked: the design of social media itself. My colleagues and I investigated how the design of social media affects online disagreements and how to design for constructive arguments. We surveyed and interviewed 257 people about their experiences with online arguments and how design could help. We asked which features of 10 different social media platforms made it easy or difficult to engage in online arguments, and why. (Full disclosure: I receive research funding from Facebook.)
