In his complaint, 20-year-old Suraj Pawar said he was attacked on Tuesday with a hockey stick outside Motilal Jhunjhunwala College, Vashi. A police official said Pawar had shared an invite in a WhatsApp group for a family member’s wedding. When his classmate Faizan Naik replied in Hindi, Pawar demanded to know why he had not communicated in Marathi, triggering an argument. Pawar alleged that Naik and three other classmates targeted him outside their college and hit him, he said. Naik was arrested after an inquiry, the official said. A case has been registered against all four students under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 118 (1), which concerns “causing hurt or grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or means”, he added.

Once users click on the link to supposedly view their challan, the APK file installs malware that grants cybercriminals access to their WhatsApp accounts and mobile devices. This access is then exploited to steal highly sensitive personal and financial data including passwords, contact lists, IDs, and banking credentials—leading to potential identity theft and massive financial losses. Mohit Chawla, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the State CID Cybercrime unit, confirmed that this scam is spreading rapidly and poses a serious threat. “This is a new method of digital fraud. The Investigatory Powers Tribunal (IPT) ruled today that it would hear five legal challenges brought by Apple, Privacy International, Liberty and two individuals, in open court over seven days early next year. The court however, refused to allow the encrypted messaging service, WhatsApp the right to intervene in the case brought by the NGOs. Apple is bringing its own case which will be considered at the same time. WhatsApp’s CEO Will Cathcart submitted evidence to the tribunal in June, raising concerns that the move by the UK government would undermine the security of people using encrypted communication and cloud services. It’s the kind of change that sounds harmless on paper, but for long-time desktop users, it’s hard not to see it as a downgrade. WEB DESK:  WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature called ‘Quick Recaps’ that will allow users to generate summaries of unread messages across multiple chats, according to WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo. This upcoming feature builds on the recently launched Message Summaries, which enables users to summarise unread messages but only from a single chat at a time. In contrast, Quick Recaps aims to provide simultaneous summaries from up to five conversations, offering a faster and more efficient way to catch up on messages. How Quick Recaps Will WorkAs per WABetaInfo, users will be able to select up to five chats from the Chats tab, tap on the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, and choose ‘Quick Recap’ to generate summaries. These summaries will offer concise overviews of recent unread messages. Like Message Summaries, this feature uses Meta’s Private Processing technology, ensuring end-to-end privacy. Neither WhatsApp, Meta, nor third parties will have access to the original messages or the generated summaries. The Quick Recap feature is optional and disabled by default.
