Police have warned schools about two chat groups containing racist, violent and pornographic content. In an email forwarded by schools to parents, Humberside Police said the WhatsApp groups were created by local schoolchildren and were causing "great concern". It also said "a number of unknown paedophiles are also using these groups to gain access to children". WhatsApp owner Meta said it offered the option to block content and "users can report content or groups they believe break our terms of service". The email sent on Thursday morning by the force's Safer Schools team said all schools in the Humberside Police area had been contacted and encouraged to advise parents to report any information about the groups to officers because they were being accessed by youngsters. More than 180 people are members of the "These Guys Are Bad" and "All The Bad Guys" groups, the force added. Supt Iain Pottage said parents should talk to their children about the risks involved using social media and the internet. He said officers worked with schools to warn them of "any emerging risks online". The feature, called Message Summaries, was announced Wednesday in a WhatsApp company blog post. Message Summaries leverages Meta AI to provide brief, bulleted lists outlining key points from a message chain on the social messaging app. It's built upon Meta's Private Processing technology, which means the summaries are conveyed privately to users without any of the information being shared with Meta or WhatsApp.  Also: How to clear your Android phone cache (and why it makes such a big difference) Message Summaries appear at the top of WhatsApp message chains as a small, rectangular icon listing the number of unread messages in the chat. Simply tap the icon, and Meta AI will generate a bulleted list of high-level key points extracted from the messages. New WhatsApp feature uses Meta’s AI to generate brief summaries of unread chats; summaries remain private and visible only to the user New Delhi: WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature called Message Summaries, which uses Meta’s artificial intelligence to provide users with a quick overview of unread messages in a chat. The feature is designed to assist users in catching up on conversations they may have missed during periods of inactivity. According to WhatsApp, the tool is especially useful in scenarios such as after a flight or between meetings, when users return to the app and require a rapid understanding of ongoing chats. The AI-generated summaries are created using Meta’s Private Processing technology. “The process is private and visible only to the user who enables it,” WhatsApp said. The company also stated that the technology ensures neither Meta nor WhatsApp can access the content of the messages or the summaries. According to the report, the Message Summaries feature is not turned on by default and requires manual activation by the user. WhatsApp is moving closer to adding ads inside both the Status section and Channels, creating new space for businesses and channel managers to showcase what they offer. These ads are expected to appear within the Updates tab and in the channel listings. Although WhatsApp has positioned privacy at the center of this system, saying that only basic, non-personal details will shape what people see, the platform is also working on giving users ways to limit the kinds of ads reaching them. The latest beta version for Android, version 2.25.19.14, gives a first look at this approach. It shows WhatsApp developing tools that will allow people to fine-tune how ads appear within their feeds. This would let them manage preferences for ads connected to both Status and Channels. Image from the beta version, as spotted by WBI, reveals that WhatsApp is preparing to add controls that will help users track ads they’ve come across.
