Elon Musk's Twitter descends into chaos after row over Daily Wire's What Is a Woman? film

The Daily Wire’s co-founder and CEO, Jeremy Boreing, has argued with Twitter’s CEO, Elon Musk, over the release of anti-trans ‘What Is A Woman’ film. (Theo Wargo/WireImage / Danielle Del Valle / Getty Images for Daily Wire) Right-wing news outlet The Daily Wire has come to blows with Twitter owner Elon Musk over the platform labelling Matt Walsh’s anti-trans What Is a Woman? film as “hateful conduct”.  Walsh’s 2022 so-called documentary features the conservative commentator asking various people what a woman is, in a bid to add to the right-wing “trans debate”.  On The Daily Wire’s website, Walsh described the film as “the documentary you’re not supposed to see”.  Following Twitter labelling the film “hateful conduct” and making it part of its “freedom of speech, not reach” policy, the film rang true to Walsh’s words.  On Thursday (1 June), the film was made available to stream through the news outlet’s Twitter account for a period of 24 hours to “celebrate” the first anniversary of its release.  Shortly after it was published, Twitter issued its “hateful” tag, limiting its discoverability.  In response, The Daily Wire’s co-founder Jeremy Boreing posted a Twitter thread directly tagging Musk. In it, he accused Twitter’s owner

Twitter user discovers strange anti-Ukrainian ad on Israeli Facebook – Israel News

A Twitter user uncovered an anti-Ukrainian ad on Facebook targetting Israelis aimed at reducing aid to Ukraine, on Wednesday. The ad featured a bent-over man dressed in white with a Star of David drawn on him wearing a kippa and carrying a blue and yellow swastika, the colors of Ukraine. The text above it says "Israel should focus all attention on fighting the economic crisis. Supporting the conflicts of others is an unjustified luxury. Every shekel counts." Followed by a link to a website. The link led to a website called theliberal.net , which had a similar appearance to an Israeli magazine of the same name. However, the magazine's website is theliberal.co.il.The article on the website was titled "Ukraine is expensive" and was supposedly written by Joanna Landau the CEO of Vibe Israel, a TLV-based organization of data-driven storytellers, sharing Israel’s story with the world according to their Twitter. This led Twitter user, Arieh Kovler, to become suspicious and he decided to investigate. This paid anti-Ukrain propaganda ad, in Hebrew, just popped up on my Facebook. The cartoon's message is hardly subtle, but let's see what we can find out. pic.twitter.com/n4mPVCDISd— Arieh Kovler (@ariehkovler) May 31, 2023The ads publisher was a "nothing" Facebook page that

Reporting from NBC News and CNBC in January found illegal content was still freely circulating on the platform.Irwin's departure comes at a turbulent time for the social media network, which was grappling with the dissemination of a conservative website's purported documentary on transgender people. The video was uploaded to Twitter's platform Thursday but was "visibility limited," preventing users from retweeting or commenting on it.On Friday, Musk shared the video after the visibility restrictions were apparently lifted.Twitter's trust and safety team, the

Eric Lewis refereeing NBA Finals amid Twitter burner investigation – Arizona Sports

DENVER (AP) — Eric Lewis was not selected as one of the 12 referees who will work the NBA Finals between the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat, while the league continues to look into whether he used a Twitter account to defend himself and other officials from online critiques. Lewis had been chosen to work the finals in each of the last four seasons. This year’s finals referees were announced by the league Thursday morning, about 12 hours before the start of the title series. After some now-deleted tweets were revealed by a pair of Twitter users last week, the league opened an investigation into whether Lewis violated NBA rules by speaking about officiating in an unauthorized manner. It has not been determined if Lewis was using the account, which utilizes the name “blair cuttliff.” The account was deactivated briefly last week but was active again Wednesday evening. “Regarding Eric Lewis and the social media posts, we are continuing to review the matter and he will not be working the finals,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass said Thursday. The league has not revealed a timetable for the completion of its probe into whether Lewis used the Twitter account. It also remains

Twitter may be worth one-third what Musk paid for it last fall as Fidelity fund marks down value

By The Associated Press Twitter may now be worth one-third of what Elon Musk paid for the social media platform just seven months ago. The Fidelity Blue Chip Growth Fund has reduced the market value of its equity stake in Twitter for a third time, now putting it at $6.55 million. That’s down from the nearly $20 million the Fidelity fund valued its stake at in October. Financial services provider Fidelity Investments is privately held, not public, but is required by the SEC to regularly disclose its holdings. Because Twitter is a private company now called X Holdings Corp., information about its finances can’t be verified. Musk took control of Twitter in October, after a protracted legal battle and months of uncertainty. The CEO of Tesla, who also owns SpaceX, bought Twitter for $44 billion. The billionaire financed the purchase with funds including loans from a group of banks. Musk has said the $44 billion price tag for Twitter was too high but that the company had great potential. By April Musk was telling the BBC that running Twitter has been “ quite painful ” but that the social media company is now roughly breaking even after he acquired it

Russia's Wagner Group uses Twitter and Facebook to hunt new recruits – POLITICO

Russia's paramilitary Wagner Group has been using Twitter and Facebook to recruit medics, drone operators and even psychologists to aid fighting operations, including in Ukraine, according to exclusive research seen by POLITICO.  Job ads for Wagner, which has mercenaries operating in several countries, have reached nearly 120,000 views on the two social media platforms over the last ten months, according to Logically, a U.K. disinformation-focused research group.  Sixty posts in dozens of languages – including French, Vietnamese and Spanish – shared information about fighting, IT, driving and medical positions apparently available with Wagner. They also included contact phone numbers, Telegram accounts and touted monthly salaries of 240,000 rubles (€‎2,800) with benefits including health care.  While the researchers couldn't directly attribute the messages to Wagner with total certainty, the posts carry the footprint of the militia and its supporters. “We only know that this is using the exact same language as previously verified Wagner accounts on places like Telegram or VK,” said Kyle Walter, head of research for Logically. VK is a popular Russian social media. It isn't clear what success the recruitment campaigns have had. Yet the incitement to violence – and promotion of Russian attacks against Ukraine — almost certainly
