Troy University’s Montgomery Metro Alumni Chapter gathered earlier this month to award scholarship to two current TROY students and one incoming student. The chapter awarded $2,000 scholarships current TROY students Jennifer Serna and Samuel Myers and incoming student Maggie Weatherford, a recent graduate of Pike Road High School. An annual golf tournament and silent auction are the chapter’s main fundraising effort to fund scholarships. “Mainly due to our golf tournament each fall and the silent auction we have along with it, we have been able to increase the amount of our scholarships,” said chapter President Bryan Hubbard. “This year we are able to give three scholarships at $2,000 each, and we are very proud of that.” Myers and Weatherford attended the gathering on May 7 at the Wynlakes home of Alumni Director Faith Byrd where they were recognized and awarded the scholarships. “I’m just very grateful to receive this scholarship,” said Weatherford, who will be studying nursing at TROY. “I have an older brother who is already in college, I will be starting my college journey in the fall, and I have a younger brother who will be a freshman after me, so I am so grateful to receive this

Later in life, Adams became known as a kind of right-wing shock jockey . But the cartoonist caught the FBI's attention for something a little bit different: the sex crimes investigation into former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R–Fl.) and a bizarre blackmail scheme that grew out of it. The FBI released its files on Adams last week, five months after his death, in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request from Reason . The records include the heavily redacted results of a background check and a request to Twitter—the social media network later renamed X—to preserve Adams' account data, including his private messages. It’s amazing that the 1992 Duke-Kentucky Elite Eight game is still talked about, but it was a phenomenal contest. Obviously, what people remember is Christian Laettner’s astonishing winning shot. It’s become legend, and rightly so. The whole play was incredible, from Grant Hill’s long, looping pass to Laettner, to his presence of mind to fake left then turn to shoot, and of course, the shot hit nothing but net. People tend to forget that Kentucky’s Sean Woods hit an incredible shot just before Laettner topped him, and that Kentucky thought they had that game in the bag. In this video, Duke legend Grant Hill talks to former Kentucky coach Rick Pitino, who surprisingly says that “that’s not a bad memory,” and that he “treasures that game.” Don’t tell Kentucky fans. He points out that Jamal Mashburn fouled out, and Hill says that he was the reason the game was close, because “Mashburn was kicking my butt.” Hill is a humble guy, but he might have mentioned his brilliant pass. Troy University’s Rosa Parks Museum will host its 11th annual Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event will take place on Montgomery Street in front of the Museum and include free admission to the museum and the Cleveland Avenue Time Machine, merchandise and service vendors, food trucks, a kids’ play area, live entertainment and giveaways throughout the day. Observed annually on June 19, Juneteenth is the oldest known commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States, commemorating the date in 1865 when Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger and his troops landed at Galveston Texas with the news that the Civil War had ended and the enslaved were free. In 2021, then-President Joe Biden signed legislation declaring Juneteenth as a federal holiday. On May 9, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed House Bill 165 into law, marking Juneteenth as an annual state holiday. SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men’s basketball team announced on Friday another addition to the 2026-27 roster, as transfer guard Preston Turner is set to join the Roadrunners heading into the third season under head coach Austin Claunch. Turner marks the fifth spring signing announced by the Roadrunners. “Preston is a versatile guard who brings size, toughness and shot-making ability to our program,” Claunch said. “He’s proven he can stretch the floor at a high level, shooting nearly 45 percent from three, while also giving us length and versatility on the perimeter. We’re excited about the experience, confidence and competitive edge he brings to UTSA basketball.” Coming in at 6-foot-6 and 190 pounds, Turner played last season at Eastern Illinois in his redshirt junior season. CARLSBAD, Calif. – Kentucky men’s golf sophomore Jacob Lang will represent the Wildcats at the 2026 NCAA Men’s Golf National Championship, May 29 – June 1, at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa’s North Course (par 72, 7,538 yards). He will be the first Wildcat to tee it up at the national championship since the team qualified in 2018. Lang is one of six qualifying individuals joining a field of 30 teams for the national championship event. The tournament will consist of 54-holes of stroke play, Friday through Sunday, after which there will be a cut to the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team. Those golfers will compete in the final round of stroke play on Monday to determine the individual national champion. For the first and second rounds, Lang will be paired with two fellow individual qualifiers – Steen Zeman of Long Beach State and Jorge Martin Sampedro of UTRGV.
