Turkey probes 30 Twitter users for suggesting Erdogan died | The Times of Israel

ISTANBUL — Turkey’s cyber police on Wednesday launched a legal probe into “baseless” social media posts speculating about President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s health. In a statement, the police said they were investigating 30 people who used or retweeted the hashtag #olmus (#heisdead), which became a top trending topic on Turkish Twitter. Underscoring the government’s sensitivity about the posts, Erdogan’s communications director Fahrettin Altun posted a short clip on Wednesday showing the Turkish leader walking out of his official car along a turquoise carpet. “Trust to friends, fear to enemies,” Altun wrote. Rumors about the health of Erdogan, 67, have been swirling for years, with one of his doctors going on record in 2011 to deny that the Turkish leader had cancer. Instagram Post Preview Cards are Back on Twitter | Social Media Today

It’s been a long time coming, and a much-requested update, and today, finally, Instagram has announced that IG posts shared in tweets will appear with preview cards once again, helping to improve cross-platform sharing. They said it would never happen… Twitter Card previews start rolling out TODAY. ????Now, when you share an Instagram link on Twitter a preview of that post will appear. ???? pic.twitter.com/XSZRx9dzd1— Instagram (@instagram) November 3, 2021 Instagram preview links were previously available on Twitter, but Instagram canceled them in 2012, making it annoyingly difficult to share between the two apps. But then, earlier this year, Instagram and Twitter started working together again, with tweets appearing as shareable stickers in Instagram Stories. That opened the door to more potential cross-app collaboration, and a subsequent tweet exchange between Twitter product chief Kayvon Beykpour and Instagram chief Adam Mosseri eventually lead to this new tweet card update. If you want to share your latest Instagram post on the Twitter timeline too, you’re in luck: now when you share a link to an IG post in a Tweet, it’ll show up as a card with a preview of the photo.Rolling out on Android, iOS, and web.— Twitter Support (@TwitterSupport) November…

Joe Scarborough Breaks Down How Donald Trump's Twitter Ban Now Plays Into GOP Hands

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on Wednesday argued that former President Donald Trump’s booting from social media for inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection proved to be “a huge windfall” for Republicans. The “Morning Joe” co-host, during a discussion on Democrat Terry McAullife’s defeat to the GOP’s Glenn Youngkin in the Virginia governor race, pointed out that some Republicans are glad Trump is no longer on Twitter. Youngkin kept Trump at arm’s length during his campaign. Without Trump’s social media ban, Scarborough noted, the former president would have reminded Virginia voters “every two minutes of just how caustic, how toxic his personality was.”“Actually, him being banned from Twitter, him being banned from Facebook, him being banned from social media is a huge windfall for Republicans,” said Scarborough in a video shared by Mediaite.Distancing themselves from Trump could be the playbook that Republicans use in 2022 and beyond, said “Way Too Early” anchor Jonathan Lemire.

Falcons Twitter anxiously supports Braves in World Series

The Braves are taking on the Astros in Game 6 of the World Series with a chance to close it out, and the fans in Atlanta are understandably nervous. Five years ago, the Falcons were in a similar position in the Super Bowl but collapsed in a fashion so painful, most fans have yet to fully shake it off. As we can see on Twitter, the fan base’s excitement for tonight’s game is arguably matched by its anxiety. Oregon Football: Twitter reactions to shocking No. 4 ranking in first playoff poll – Autzen Zoo

Oct 30, 2021; Eugene, Oregon, USA; Oregon Ducks running back Travis Dye (26) celebrates after scoring a touchdown during the first half against the Colorado Buffaloes at Autzen Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports Who saw this coming? After coming in at No. 7 in the AP Top 25 this week, Oregon football got some major respect from the playoff committee, earning the No. 4 spot in the playoff rankings.Everyone was shocked that it wasn’t Ohio State or Oklahoma or even Cincinnati in that No. 4 spot, but that just goes to show how much the committee valued the Ducks’ road win over then-No. 3 Ohio State in Week 2. Couple that with a solid win over UCLA a couple of weeks ago and then some style points added from Week 9’s win over Colorado and it makes more sense.I still can’t say that I saw this coming. In fact, in my ‘where will Oregon be ranked?’ post from earlier on Tuesday, I projected the Ducks to come in at No. 7 in the rankings. I was happy to be wrong. With Anthony Brown playing his best football of the season, Oregon no longer playing down to opponents, and the run…

Twitter user giving rape threat to Virat Kohli's daughter is Indian, not Pakistani – Alt News

Since Indian bowler, Mohammed Shami, was abused on social media after India’s loss to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, there has been an organised effort to blame anonymous Pakistani accounts for targeting Shami. Indian cricket team caption Virat Kohli came out in support of Shami and condemned those who attacked him over his faith. A now-deleted Twitter handle ‘Amena @criccrazygirl’ posted a tweet where the user threatened to rape Kohli’s daughter. It has now been claimed that @criccrazygirl is a Pakistani bot account. Once again it’s a Pakistani bot…. https://t.co/a3iickCCcT pic.twitter.com/SMrpxTx5KP — Mr Sinha (@MrSinha_) October 31, 2021 Several people made the claim while criticising those who called out the objectionable tweet. A single tweet. From a Pakistani bot account. @borges you’re a journalist. Think hard about the voices you choose to amplify. And no, this has nothing to do with India. There’s self awareness and self-critique and then there’s propagandists with agendas to peddle. https://t.co/TG73w5GMUG pic.twitter.com/QRY69uSwUE — Aparna Mitra (@aparnamitra0) November 1, 2021 Here’s the tweet that @payalmehta100 deleted. Tis The Season? Twitter Poll Finds Majority Against Christmas Decorations In Early …

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — With Halloween over, another kind of holiday spirit is announcing its arrival. Christmas trees and lights may be coming soon to a home near you, but not everyone seems to be on board the festive sleigh just yet. A WCCO Twitter poll Monday asked if it’s too early to start decorating for Christmas — and more than 60% voted “yes.” At Mall of America, signs of the holiday are everywhere. Forty-four-foot-tall holiday trees are under construction in the mall’s rotunda. They’re expected to be completed by Friday. Several stores also have decorations in their window displays. “It’s a perfect time to start,” said Zack Tretter. “I love Christmas season.” The clothing store Altar’d State has displayed handmade Christmas decorations for at least two weeks, and Christmas music has been playing inside since the beginning of October, according to the manager. “I think it’s OK because it’s just fun, and everything Christmas I think is pretty,” said Azarayah Crockett. Even within families, this can be a divisive issue. Adeya Crockett disagrees. (credit: CBS) “I think we should be talking about Thanksgiving first,” Adeya Crockett said. “Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because all the food and being…
