Here's where Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces fall short

Social networks such as Twitter are competing with startup Clubhouse by launching their own live audio products. Getty Images On Thursday, Jeremy Browning, a Twitter product manager, gave the public a behind-the-scenes look at a new feature the company built for live audio chats. Not everyone, though, could understand what he was saying.Fittingly, Browning hosted the conversation on Spaces, Twitter's live audio product. The audio chat tool has live captioning, a feature meant to help hearing-impaired people. Twitter users trying to follow the conversation solely through the captions likely had a tough time deciphering Browning's words. Cut through the chatter Subscribe to CNET's Mobile newsletter for the latest phone news and reviews. "I was sort of by virtue of being employed and Twitter able to see and you Spaces before the war the water public was a small percentage of the pop quiz," a live caption of Browning's remarks in the Twitter Space read. Browning actually told the audience that as a Twitter employee he was able to see new Spaces before a small percentage of the public was. Midway through the conversation, held on Global Accessibility Awareness Day, other problems popped up. Listeners could no longer hear what Browning was…

Google: Complaining On Twitter About Content Not Being Indexed Won't Help

Googlers are often being asked about why content on specific websites do not rank or are not indexed. In this last case, John Mueller of Google responded to one request saying "We just don't index all content - complaining about it on Twitter won't change that."Google has been saying they do not index everything for years, Google simply won't index all your pages and it is impossible for Google to index everything, Google said.John added that complaining loudly on Twitter won't help. He kind of went off a bit on it:You're not new to this - you've probably worked on complex systems too. I don't quite know what to make of your loud tweets trying to solve this, but I get that it can be annoying when you have high expectations and an algorithm doesn't fulfill them.— 🍌 John 🍌 (@JohnMu) May 20, 2021 Keep in mind, a month ago, Google came out with a form to report indexing issues. So you can use that form if you want and not complain on Twitter.Forum discussion at Twitter.

'Harassment on Twitter is inevitable': Gov. DeSantis' press secretary unlocks account

Christina Pushaw, Gov. Ron DeSantis‘ newly minted press secretary, unlocked her Twitter account on Saturday after privatizing the account following a series of online threats. “Unlocked my account because I concluded that unfortunately, harassment on Twitter is inevitable for a conservative in public life,” Pushaw tweeted. “I’ll still block & report — but only actual threats. This isn’t my official work account, but I will use it to debunk misinformation & spread truth.” Pushaw, a conservative journalist turned press secretary, locked her Twitter account on Thursday after “waves” of  “disgusting” and “deranged” harassments and threats, she explained on Twitter. Among the threats, one user wrote “your death would not be a tragedy.” That tweet, Pushaw tweeted, was referred to law enforcement. Pushaw’s Twitter bio on Thursday said “temporarily locked” and references John 15:18 in the Bible. It now says “personal account” and still refers to the Bible verse. “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first,” the scripture reads per the New International Version of the Bible. Pushaw came aboard the DeSantis administration earlier this month, making her the latest addition to the Governor’s communications staff. In April, DeSantis onboarded Taryn Fenske as communications director.…

NBA Twitter ends Warriors season a second time over after losing play-in

May 21, 2021; San Francisco, CA, USA; Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (30) hugs Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant (12) after the game at Chase Center. Mandatory Credit: Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports The Memphis Grizzlies survived a late push from the Golden State Warriors thanks to a heroic overtime effort from Ja Morant. The Warriors dynasty is not over, per say, as Klay Thompson will return next season and we can only guess what Joe Lacob and the Golden State front office have in mind after this disappointing exit. But this feels like a significant blow. The Grizzlies did not have the average NBA viewer’s best interest at heart, nor the financial considerations of the league as a whole. Instead, Memphis will be heading to Utah for the 1-8 matchup in the NBA playoffs. Memphis won two games in a row — the first over the San Antonio Spurs — to cement their place in the playoffs.NBA fans loved watching the Golden State Warriors miss the playoffsThe Warriors were just a few points short of beating the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. Now, they’re out of the postseason entirely. The play-in tournament may not always produce the results Adam Silver…
