social-media-reacts-after-60-minutes-criticizes-florida-governor-ron-desantis'-vaccine-rollout

Social media reacts after 60 Minutes criticizes Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' vaccine rollout

“The Hunger Games” is how 60 Minutes reporter Sharyn Alfonsi characterized Gov. Ron Desantis’ vaccine rollout in Palm Beach County on a Sunday segment on the show, likening it to the popular book and film series depicting a dystopian survivalist nightmare. Heated reactions from both sides of the political spectrum on social media immediately followed the airing of the story, which questioned why wealthy donors and communities like the Town of Palm Beach have been prioritized for vaccinations while poorer communities have seemingly struggled to get the shots. As well, the decision to grant Publix exclusive distribution rights for the vaccine came under scrutiny, with 60 Minutes highlighting the Florida-based grocery chain’s donations to DeSantis’ political action committee. (A January analysis by the South Florida Sun Sentinel found that Publix vaccine sites were out of reach for many poor and Black Floridians.) In interviews on the show, local officials, angered by the Publix arrangement, described it as “pay to play” and at one of the governor’s recent press conferences, Alfonsi herself pointedly asked DeSantis, “How is that not pay to play?” Check out the heated exchange between Alfonsi and DeSantis: A number of conservative officials and media figures came to…

Falcon & Winter Soldier's Sharon Carter & Zemo Get New Twitter Emojis

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier reveal their latest Twitter emojis in order to commemorate episode 3's return of Baron Zemo and Sharon Carter. Twitter rolls out new character emojis now that Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) and Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) have joined The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is Disney+'s latest MCU series and it has done impressively well so far; its premiere even managed to garner more views than the first episodes of its popular predecessor, WandaVision. The show is halfway through its first season, and the plot is finally starting to ramp up. Although WandaVision technically kicked off the MCU's Phase 4, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has the responsibility of properly showing fans how the world functions post-Avengers: Endgame, now that everyone has been snapped back into existence. Amidst the chaos of rebuilding society, there is a group of people known as the Flag-Smashers, who enjoyed life more during the five years in which half the population was gone. So far, fans have seen them covertly traveling across Europe, stealing resources, finding more recruits, and working towards their main goal of taking down those who have returned to power post-Blip. Bucky (Sebastian Stan) and Sam (Anthony Mackie) are teaming up to neutralize this threat, and they…

Gator Twitter idiots need to get off Mike White's back | Commentary

As a kid growing up in Gainesville going to totally irrelevant Florida Gators basketball games at a musty, cramped, archaic old gym known as Alligator Alley, I’m ashamed of many of the Johnny-Come-Lately Gator fans of today. I’m ashamed because they have no sense of historical perspective. I’m ashamed because they are out of touch with reality. Mostly, I’m ashamed about how they are treating Mike White — a good man, a good father, a good husband and, yes, a good basketball coach. White says he doesn’t see or hear the mean-spirited, ridiculous, fire-the-coach criticism being heaped upon him by the idiotic minority of Gator fans on social media, who are freaking out after a loss to 15th-seeded Oral Roberts in the second round of the NCAA Tournament a couple of weeks ago and the resulting rash of UF players (four) who have since entered the transfer portal. White instead chose to take the high road when I asked him how he is handling the criticism from the legions of the miserable on Twitter. “I love the passion of our fan base,” White says. “It’s part of what makes this place special. And obviously it puts a healthy pressure on…

Falcons Twitter reacts to team playing home game in London

The Atlanta Falcons announced late Thursday afternoon that they will play in the NFL’s international series over in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this October. With the NFL officially adding a 17th game this season, some teams will get an extra home game. That’s not the case for the Falcons, though, and to make it worse, this London matchup with an unnamed opponent will count as a home game for Atlanta, even though it isn’t one. Let’s see how Falcons Twitter reacted to Thursday’s news. Part of the advantage for home games in sports in my opinion is player familiarity and comfortablity (sleeping in their own beds, in their own house with their family) with no travel. Having to travel to another country and sleep in a hotel is dubbed as an away game imo. — Falcons Kingdom (@FalconsKingdom) April 2, 2021 THIS IS THE BEST NEWS THAT COULD HAVE COME OUT TODAY! YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT WE ARE GOING TO BE THERE. CAN NOT WAIT TO SEE THE LADS ON THE FIELD IN LONDON. LETS GET IT! 🔴⚫🔴⚫ https://t.co/l2Oj2RWd40 — 🇬🇧 Atlanta Falcons 🔴⚫ (@ATLFalconsUK) April 1, 2021 With the NFL transitioning to a 17 game and the #Falcons…

twitter-unsurprisingly-confirms-spaces-are-coming-to-desktop-web-browsers

Twitter unsurprisingly confirms Spaces are coming to desktop web browsers

Over the past several months, Twitter has been working hard to bring its Clubhouse-like audio chat rooms feature, Spaces, to users on iOS and, as of last month, Android. A logical next place for Spaces to show up would be on the web, and unsurprisingly, Twitter is working on the feature for browsers, the company confirmed to The Verge. We decided to ask Twitter about Spaces on desktop after seeing this tweet from app researcher Jane Manchun Wong, which shows what Spaces preview cards could look like when viewed on the web. And Twitter itself hasn’t been entirely secret about developing the feature, either. A Twitter Spaces developer posted some designs of how a Space’s intro screen might look on the web last Friday. Given that Spaces is only available on mobile right now, bringing it to the web would be a significant expansion. And that broader reach could help Twitter in its race to compete with Clubhouse, which is still only on iOS (though an Android version is on the way). It would also bring Twitter in closer parity to Discord, which just yesterday launched its social audio rooms feature, Stage Channels, on all platforms where Discord is available.…

Hailey Bieber Revealed The Real Reason Why She Left Twitter

"It starts to mess with your mind." And you probably know that Hailey Bieber isn't on Twitter anymore after she deactivated her account last summer. There was never really a time I would go on there that it didn't feel like it was a very toxic environment," she explained. "The thought of even opening the app gives me such bad anxiety that I feel like I'm going to throw up." "People can say whatever they want on the internet, you know, and then this stuff goes viral because people believe anything that they see on social media." Hailey also said that her therapist helps her stay grounded amidst the digital noise, reminding her that it all "really only exists in your screen." "I think when you're going through a situation where you just have so many people hounding you with the same thing over and over and over again, it starts to mess with your mind and then you start to question everything," she continued. "You're like, 'Is there something that I'm not seeing that they see... Maybe they're right?'" Bieber explained that her 2018 marriage to husband Justin Bieber "really opened me up to this new kind of level…

Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces are the Goldilocks zone of conversation – they're just right

Nandini YadavApr 01, 2021 09:32:16 ISTOne of biggest tech trends of 2021 was the skyrocketing popularity of the audio-only app Clubhouse. From 2,000 downloads in September 2020, the app’s monthly downloads jumped to 2.4 million in January 2021. In February 2021, Clubhouse crossed 10 million downloads globally on the Apple App Store. Unless you took social distancing a little too far and were living in a cave, you would know that Clubhouse is a social platform built around the “drop-in audio chat” model. It features ephemeral real-time voice conversations that any user can listen to and nobody can record. From Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah to Lindsay Lohan, Clubhouse has gathered a legion of high-profile users. What’s so attractive about audio-only conversation? For starters, the pandemic, the quarantine, the one-year of WFH, the hordes of people desperate for social connection, all of that together may have created the ideal conditions for the audio-only model to thrive. Stanford professor Jeremy Bailenson, founding director of the Stanford Virtual Human Interaction Lab (VHIL) recently shared a study, according to which, ‘Zoom fatigue’ is real. Bailenson says these video calls are tiring people out more than usual. Constant Zoom calls and meetings, longer work…
