Christina Pushaw, Gov. Ron DeSantis‘ newly minted press secretary, unlocked her Twitter account on Saturday after privatizing the account following a series of online threats. “Unlocked my account because I concluded that unfortunately, harassment on Twitter is inevitable for a conservative in public life,” Pushaw tweeted. “I’ll still block & report — but only actual threats. This isn’t my official work account, but I will use it to debunk misinformation & spread truth.” Pushaw, a conservative journalist turned press secretary, locked her Twitter account on Thursday after “waves” of  “disgusting” and “deranged” harassments and threats, she explained on Twitter. Among the threats, one user wrote “your death would not be a tragedy.” That tweet, Pushaw tweeted, was referred to law enforcement. Pushaw’s Twitter bio on Thursday said “temporarily locked” and references John 15:18 in the Bible. It now says “personal account” and still refers to the Bible verse. “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first,” the scripture reads per the New International Version of the Bible. Pushaw came aboard the DeSantis administration earlier this month, making her the latest addition to the Governor’s communications staff. The trust of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation made major investment changes in the first quarter, before the Gates announced they’re divorcing. Russian internet watchdog Roskomnadzor has decided not to block Twitter after the US company deleted over 90% of the material the state organ had objected to, the organ said in a press release on May 15. Roskomnadzor said it had “positively assessed” Twitter’s efforts to comply with Russian law, which prohibits the publication material including child pornography, drug use and instructions on how to commit suicide that it accused Twitter of hosting. After the initial warning that the service could be blocked, Roskomnadzor narrowed the bandwidth available to Twitter in Russia from March 10 after the company refused to comply. Although that had little effect on the speed that short text messages can be transmitted, it did slow the download of pictures and video, users reported. The watchdog had threatened to fully block the site on May 15 if Twitter had not made substantial progress in deleting the offending posts. The state censor has now decided that such a move is unnecessary and the US company has largely complied with the requests. According to RKN, over 91% of the posts have been removed. The agency will thus return normal service to Twitter on computers, but it will continue to slow…

Twitter is directly challenging the Government’s legislation on online safety with a robust attack on its proposals to impose financial sanctions, block services and make senior management of companies criminally responsible for breaches of the law. In its opening statement to a meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on Communications, the social media giant argues that several of the sanctions, as envisaged, would set a “global benchmark” that will have a chilling effect in other regions of the world. “We contend that several of the sanctions as currently envisaged create an unhelpful international precedent: specifically the extent of proposed financial sanctions, the provision for service blocking, and the criminal liability of senior management,” it states. It is the second appearance for Twitter and for Facebook before the committee in the past month. At the last meeting, Twitter and Facebook (especially the former) were lambasted by committee members for allowing anonymous accounts, for trolling, and for abusive content.
