Bowling | John Williamson Leaves Championship Legacy – Vanderbilt Athletics

NASHVILLE, Tenn. —  The architect of a self-made dynasty that won Vanderbilt’s first national championship and recently became the university’s first three-time national champion, bowling head coach John Williamson will transition from coaching after 22 seasons. Williamson will continue his career in a new role in Vanderbilt Athletics at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, Vice Chancellor for Athletics and University Affairs and Athletic Director Candice Storey Lee announced Friday.   “John Wiliamson showed us what it means to reimagine what is possible at Vanderbilt,” Lee said. “I had the privilege of witnessing him turn the mere idea of a new program into a  three-time national champion and set an unmatched standard. Today, when we talk about Vanderbilt’s commitment to winning with our values intact, we are building from a blueprint that John championed. His leadership has shaped generations of student-athletes and continues to define the culture and standards we expect within Vanderbilt Athletics.”     A four-time National Tenpin Coaches Association Coach of the Year, Williamson led teams to NCAA championships in 2007, 2018 and 2023 and reached the championship match on three more occasions among 10 Final Four appearances. Vanderbilt has advanced to 19 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, the second-longest active streak

European Politicians Unveil “W”, an Upcoming Twitter/X Alternative – 80 Level

Sheen, this is the 7th week in a row you've shown Twitter/X alternatives in class. Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads – the internet has seen no shortage of so-called "Twitter/X killers" rolled out over the past few years. That list is about to grow again: a group of European politicians and entrepreneurs has unveiled "W," a new alternative to X explicitly marketed to users looking to leave Twitter for political reasons. Presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos to the tune of Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall, Pt.1 – The Wall played at WEF, talk about something that wasn't on anyone's bingo card – W is described by its CEO Anna Zeiter, an ex-lawyer and eBay's former Vice President of AI & Privacy, as a "better version of Twitter" that would be "governed and hosted in Europe." "Across Europe and beyond, systemic disinformation is eroding public trust and weakening democratic decision-making. Many see the problem. Far fewer are helping shape what comes next," she comments. "We believe there is an urgent need for a new social media platform built, governed, and hosted in Europe. With human verification, free speech, and data privacy at its core." One of the most

NCAA President Charlie Baker Is a Twitter Reply Guy – Front Office Sports

On Jan. 15, NCAA president Charlie Baker posted a two-minute video on X/Twitter addressing the explosive federal charges that dozens of Division I men’s basketball players were involved in a bribery-driven point-shaving and game-fixing scheme.  Later that same day, Baker used the same social media platform to share that he thinks Jim Thorpe is the greatest athlete of all time, that the death of Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington hit him hard, and that the TV show Friday Night Lights managed to be excellent from start to finish. Baker, who is 69 and has more than 93,000 followers, has become a full-fledged reply guy. His account has been active since 2009 and became verified in 2014. Baker has always been an active user—in 2015, Boston Magazine published a story called “Charlie Baker Is Awesome At Twitter.” That story had nothing to do with him being a reply guy; instead, it focused on his selfie-taking proficiency, his propensity to engage with reporters, and his correct usage of the quote tweet feature. As of Jan. 21, Baker has made almost 9,000 total posts.  Starting late last year, there was a noticeable uptick in the volume of his replies to accounts posing light

Earlier this month, Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy announced his New Year’s resolution. “I plan to become a social-media teetotaler in 2026,” he wrote in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, announcing that he had deleted X and Instagram from his phone. His campaign team would still distribute messaging online, he said, but he would not spend his own time scrolling. Integral to his decision was his concern that social media was alienating him from the voters he hopes to serve in the governor’s mansion. “Modern social media is increasingly disconnected from the electorate,” the Republican wrote. “The messages you’re most likely to see are the most negative and bombastic, because they’re most likely to receive rapid ‘likes’ and ‘reposts’—and that drives revenue for social media content creators.” Though Ramaswamy’s commitment was new this year, some in Congress have previously sworn off social media, recognizing that it is an untrustworthy barometer of what their constituents think that also distracts them from their most important duties. “I don’t have any social media apps on my phone
