BTS, 'Butter' Hybe Labels/YouTube BTS’s new single “Butter” has only been out for one day, but it’s already broken an important record, securing the highest 24-hour debut in YouTube history—at least for now. As of midnight EST, “Butter” had earned an estimated 112.855 million views on YouTube, giving it the biggest first-day view count of all time. BTS previously set the 24-hour debut record with last summer’s “Dynamite,” which racked up 101.1 million views in its first day. This number is based off the live YouTube view count when “Butter” reached the 24-hour mark. YouTube has not yet released its official first-day view count. Previously, videos that appeared to be in contention for the 24-hour debut record lost millions of views when the official tallies were released due to “low-quality” streams,” i.e. videos that may have been viewed simultaneously across several windows, tabs and devices, or videos that were looped for hours with the volume muted. The hotly anticipated new music video drew at least an estimated 3.89 million concurrent viewers to its midnight EST premiere, according to the view counter at various points throughout the video. SINGAPORE -- YouTube's Taiwan-born co-founder is betting on the island for his next venture, lauding its abundance of tech talent to rival the U.S.Steve Chen said in an interview that he planned to launch a global internet startup from Taiwan, where he has now moved. He said the island had plenty of "very high-quality engineers and product managers" even compared to Silicon Valley in the U.S., where he lived for 20 years.Chen also said he believed YouTube would see off any threat from Asian rivals such as China's TikTok, telling Nikkei Asia that only an "unforeseen technological leap" might end its dominance in the video sharing space.Chen launched YouTube in early 2005 with former colleagues from online payments company PayPal. Their venture enjoyed instant success and the company was sold to Google in October 2006 in a deal worth $1.65 billion. Just three fights into his career, Jake Paul is already one of the most coveted assets in combat sports, and he now has a new fighting home. Paul has inked a deal for Showtime Sports to serve as the promoter for his next fight after he previously competed under the Triller Fight Club banner. Showtime officials confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Wednesday following an initial report from ESPN. While no further details are available at this time, Paul and Showtime are expected to sign a deal for multiple fights with talks ongoing for an opponent, date and location for his return to action. Paul previously represented himself as a free agent, saying he preferred one-fight deals, after working with Triller on two events. “We love Jake,” Triller boss Ryan Kavanaugh told ESPN on Paul’s move. “I wish Jake the absolute best. On the night of Google I/O 2021, a playback error is affecting many on YouTube with videos ceasing to play at random. An unknown error is causing video playback on YouTube to error out for some users. In some cases, it appears that quality drops from a standard resolution such as 1080p or 720p down to a much lower quality before crashing entirely. Your results may vary. The issue appears fairly widespread at this point with a huge uptick in reports on DownDetector regarding the problem. We encountered the problem ourselves and it persisted a refresh, but closing out of YouTube entirely and then going back to the same video through search seemed to fix the problem. Interestingly, DownForEveryoneOrJustMe reports that the site as a whole is down. YouTube TV and YouTube Music are also affected. Earlier this evening the @TeamYouTube account on Twitter acknowledged an issue with videos not streaming or uploading properly, but there was no spike on DownDetector at that time. According to the same account, that same issue is what’s causing the widespread outage tonight. To clarify, the issue is still ongoing, and we're currently looking into it. YouTube has shared some insight into coming updates for its Creator Studio management platform, including improved processes for uploading videos via the mobile app, and an expansion of its pre-publish checking capacity to help creators avoid potential penalties.  First off, YouTube is looking to improve its upload default settings, which will see defaults added to the mobile posting process, and will also allow multiple upload templates, reducing the need for full data entry every time you publish a clip. YouTube will also soon enable users to clone their upload settings from a previous video, further expediting the posting process, particularly on mobile devices. YouTube's also looking to making it easier to manage content on the go by adding an option to upload videos from Google Drive. As you can see here, the new process will add Google Drive as another source location for your video content, which will enable you to access all of your shared videos on your, or your business', Drive folder, from anywhere - again, further expanding your posting options.
