YouTube Gold: A Young Charles Barkley | Duke Basketball Report

Charles Barkley first came to attention as an Auburn Tiger. No one cared about him in high school. First, he was from a very small town (Leeds, Alabama, population around 12,000), and second, he was overweight, and third, he didn’t really grow until he was nearly a senior, and even then, was only recruited when an Auburn assistant noticed him, and told coach Sonny Smith that he saw “a fat guy... who can play like the wind.” Even at Auburn, his potential was largely underestimated due to his weight. He played between 280 and 300 in college, and during the 1984 Olympic tryouts, coach Bobby Knight was amazed by what Barkley could do, but also disgusted by his lack of self-discipline. He wouldn’t fully register as an all-time great until he joined the Philadelphia 76ers and Moses Malone began to mentor him. Malone persuaded him to get in shape, and Barkley, by then 6-6, got his weight down to 250 and kept it there for his career. Even as big as he was at Auburn, Barkley was stunning. What’s really impressive about these highlights, aside from how well he moved 30-50 pounds overweight, was how well he passed. In the

Iran sentences singer Parastoo Ahmadi, eight others to lashings over performance without hijab

By DANIELLE GREYMAN-KENNARD JUNE 18, 2026 16:42 Updated: JUNE 18, 2026 20:24 Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmadi, musicians Ehsan Beiraqdar and Soheil Faqih Nasiri, and six members of the production team for the Caravanserai Concert were ordered to be lashed 74 times by the Qom Provincial Criminal Court, Iranian human-rights groups and diaspora media outlets reported Thursday. The artists will also face a two-year travel ban and a two-year restriction on all artistic activity. The court ruled they had offended “public decency through the production and publication of obscene and immoral content on cyberspace platforms.” The artists and their team were first arrested after their performance was broadcast on YouTube last December. They were ordered to appear before the Prosecutor’s Office for Moral Security in January. The court prosecuted them under Articles 638 of the Islamic Penal Code and 743 of the Computer Crimes Law, BBC Persian reported. Article 638 of the Islamic Penal Code criminalizes the performance of any “open religious taboo” or acts that offend public decency, such as appearing without a hijab. Article 743 criminalizes the promotion or encouragement of corruption, prostitution, or acts deemed offensive to public morality via digital networks. Women singing not against Iranian law

YouTube India Positions Connected TV as New Prime-Time Screen at APOS – Variety

Connected TV has become YouTube‘s fastest-growing screen in India, reaching more than 75 million adults, as the platform pushes deeper into living-room viewing and signals a structural shift in how it partners with the country’s media and entertainment sector. Gunjan Soni, country managing director of YouTube India, made the remarks at the APOS conference in Bali on Wednesday, laying out a three-part operational approach for M&E partners centered on promotional distribution, revenue diversification and format modernization. “YouTube is now India’s prime-time screen, where internet authenticity meets cinematic quality on the largest canvas in the home,” Soni said. “YouTube has collapsed the distance between different video formats and different entertainment ecosystems, bringing them all onto India’s largest screen.” Popular on Variety According to YouTube, the platform holds the top reach across CTV screens in India among media properties, per Comscore data. Viewers are moving between shorts, long-form video, podcasts and live content, with the big screen increasingly serving as a destination for shared, lean-back viewing. Video podcasts – or vodcasts – have emerged as a particularly CTV-native format, with shows turning passive audio listening into a visual event. On the commerce side, Soni said more than 200 million logged-in users searched

Five big questions about the UK’s under-16s social media ban – BBC

1 hour ago Liv McMahon & Philippa Wain Technology reporters Getty Images However, details on which apps are and are not included, besides those named by the government, and how the measures will extend to gaming sites like Roblox, remain sparse. And many are already asking whether enforcing the ban will mean cracking down on virtual private networks (VPNs), which can disguise someone's location online. Ministers have said they will provide an update on further restrictions like potential curfews, curbing of "addictive" features like infinite scroll and AI chatbots, in July. But here are some of the big unanswered questions about the UK social media ban. 1. What does it mean for Roblox and other gaming sites? The government has only specified a handful of sites included in the UK's social media ban. These are Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and X. However, it says its restrictions will closely follow Australia's - where the above apps plus Kick, Reddit, Threads and Twitch are banned for under-16s. So where does that leave Roblox and gaming sites like it? Roblox is hugely popular with children in the UK, but it has been accused of failing to keep them safe - including allegations
