Ex-YouTube Exec Susanne Daniels On ‘Cobra Kai’ & Original Content – Deadline

YouTube will pivot back to original content according to former exec Susanne Daniels. She spearheaded the platform’s stunted move into original fare with the likes of Cobra Kai , before exiting the Google-owned platform in 2022 when it moved away from having its own programming. But the veteran exec and YouTube alum said she anticipates a full-circle moment for the Google-owned platform. Daniels was speaking at the ongoing Monte-Carlo TV Festival where she is chairing the event’s digital jury. Watch on Deadline “Neal Mohan was very averse to it… but now that he’s running YouTube, I think he’ll come around to it,” Daniels said, citing the deal for rights to the Academy Awards as evidence it is in the market for content. YouTube outbid ABC and others and has rights to the biggest night in film, starting 2029. Originals are, however, complicated for YouTube, as Daniels recalled. If YouTube is purely a distribution platform for third-party content, it avoids, in some jurisdictions, the regulation and checks on broadcasters and entities that originate, broadcast and publish content. “The distinction is that they claim they’re just a platform, and that was one of the problems when I ran original content

What Car Projects Are You Watching Or Subscribed To On YouTube? – Jalopnik

While there is certainly no shortage of streaming platforms, the one I tend to gravitate to the most remains to be YouTube. It comes with its limitations and sometimes wonky-to-navigate platform pending certain updates, but this is the price we pay for what sometimes feels like a never-ending field of content. And as much as algorithms can be derided for causing the worst to come to your attention, when it comes to YouTube, it still seems to offer suggestions that can be delightful to watch. My current subscription list consists of racing series, horror and cozy gamers, and a fair share of car YouTube like MotorWeek, the Torque Test Channel, former Jalop Alanis King, and Brick Technology, the latter once built an operational 5-speed gearbox out of Legos. The most recent to make it to my suggestions feed, well-after we wrote about it here on Jalopnik, was The Questionable Garage and their EV-1 build. The EV-1 was a pivotal car in my childhood plans of adulthood, until GM up and killed it. So some part of me is truly fascinated, maybe inspired by these guys bringing one back to life (mostly) outside of the General's hands. It got me thinking;

Nexstar CEO: big tech swallowed local newspapers. Local TV could be next – Fortune

For decades, outdated rules and regulations have constrained the ability of local television broadcasters — the providers of local news, the most trusted information available to Americans — to compete, grow, and invest in their own future. During that same time, a handful of Big Tech platforms have amassed unprecedented economic power, each one dwarfing all of traditional media and dramatically reshaping how Americans consume news and information. Companies like Google/YouTube, TikTok, Amazon, Meta’s Facebook and Instagram, and Netflix now reach virtually every screen in every home and every device in every pocket. Their scale is staggering. Today, YouTube accounts for one-eighth of all television viewing in the United States. One in four young adults report getting their news from TikTok. The advertising numbers are just as stark: according to S&P Global/Kagan, YouTube alone billed more in video advertising last year than all of broadcast television combined. In 2026, one Wall Street analyst predicts that just five digital entities — Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and TikTok — will control 65% of the advertising market, worth $260 billion.  These companies are not built to prioritize fact-based journalism or civic discourse. Their business model rewards clicks, not accuracy or accountability. While their content

San Antonio judge warned over YouTube channel, courtroom comments

State District Judge Stephanie Boyd was issued a warning by the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct for violating judicial standards. The warning referenced two exchanges with defendants in her courtroom, as well as her practice of streaming court proceedings on YouTube. Marvin Pfeiffer/San Antonio Express-News A state judicial conduct commission has warned State District Judge Stephanie Boyd that she violated judicial standards through her handling of two cases and her use of a YouTube channel to stream hearings and host a book club. The Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct issued the warning on June 3 to Boyd, who presides over the 187th District Court. The warning stated that Boyd improperly inserted herself into plea negotiations during a 2023 hearing, made degrading comments to a defendant during a livestreamed hearing and improperly used her court’s YouTube channel. Article continues below this ad One of the complaints centers on an October 2024 hearing involving Thomas Henson, who was facing up to 20 years in prison. Boyd told the court reporter to go “off the record,” but the livestream continued. She went on to warn Henson that when he goes to prison, he could be “passed around for cigarettes or dessert” because

From YouTube to Disney+: Preschool hit ‘Gracie’s Corner’ lands streaming and development deal

LOS ANGELES (AP) — When Javoris Hollingsworth looked over his children’s shoulders during the pandemic, he noticed something missing from the educational videos keeping them occupied: Black characters who reflected families like his own. “Did you realize that none of the characters look like our children?” he asked his wife, Arlene Gordon-Hollingsworth. Instead of simply pointing out the problem, the couple set out to change it. That observation eventually led to “Gracie’s Corner,” the educational music series inspired by their daughter Graceyn Hollingsworth that has attracted more than 6.3 million YouTube subscribers and nearly 10 billion views. Now, “Gracie’s Corner” is headed to Disney+. Disney announced Thursday that it has acquired the global streaming rights to the popular preschool series and will develop new original content with the Hollingsworth family. The deal includes global linear and streaming rights to more than 120 shorts and 18 themed compilations from the existing series. Graceyn, 13, said she was “really ecstatic” when she learned Disney would become part of the show's next chapter. “Disney, Disney. The one that makes all the princess movies and everything,” she recalled thinking. “It was really surprising.” When will ‘Gracie’s Corner' premiere on Disney+? “Gracie’s Corner” will debut
