Lancaster County man arrested after threatening to kill police on Facebook, police say

A Lancaster County man is charged with threatening to shoot and kill police officers after making threats in a video he posted on Facebook. East Lampeter Township police say 38-year-old Anthony Tsoflias uploaded the clip last Friday. WellSpan Public Safety reported the video to police after monitoring Tsoflias' social media activity. Charging documents show Tsoflias was a patient at WellSpan and also threatened a doctor and other staff on Facebook. "Enough people know who I am. I could go home, grab my gun, walk down to East Lampeter Township, shoot as many cops as I want dead, go to state patrol Lincoln High, shoot as many cops as I want," Tsoflias said in the video. Tsoflias continues to name an East Lampeter Township police detective, saying he would shoot them and then walk home and lie in bed. Tsoflias is in police custody. Police did not reveal a motive, but back in April, the department charged him with harassment. New Jersey theme park selling life-sized dinosaurs on Facebook Marketplace

Been debating on whether to finally add that 40-foot T-Rex to your front lawn? Well, now’s probably the time to jump. Field Station: Dinosaurs, the Bergen County dinosaur-themed park set to close in November, recently listed two-dozen of its animatronic attractions on Facebook Marketplace. Everything from the life-sized Stegosaurus ($1,260) to the horned-headed Triceratops ($2,230) to the genuinely frightening T-Rex ($2,700.) The long-necked 75-foot Apatosaurus ($2,860), a long-necked, late Jurassic Period herbivore would require serious backyard real estate. And don’t sleep on the soaring Pterodactyls Pteranodon ($850), a flying reptile with a 20-foot wingspan and gaping maw. Made of steel, rubber and foam, and listed in “fair” to “slightly-used” condition, the marketplace ads join the “For Sale” signs plunked in front of some of the prehistoric creatures. In May, park founder Guy Gsell announced that his park, located in Leonia since 2016, would close Nov. 9. Before the announcement, the park had been trying to raise $25,000 to operate as a nonprofit. “The finances of the park had become problematic and the lease was up — it was just time,” Gsell said Friday in an interview.  » Read More

New Report Finds Facebook and TikTok are Key News Sources | Social Media Today

Pew Research has published its latest overview of the use of social media as a news source, and how people are increasingly relying on social media apps to keep them informed of the latest information and updates. Which is a critical consideration. Over time, more and more people have come to rely on social media as a news and information source, guiding their thinking on key topics, and how they support, or don’t, political candidates. Indeed, it’s not a stretch to say that social media now shapes the world we live in, whether you personally use it or not, and as such, it’s worth noting the latest trends, and understanding how people are keeping themselves informed on key news issues. First off, in terms of social media news sources, Facebook and YouTube still lead the way, though both TikTok and Instagram are steadily rising as news sources. As you can see in these charts, 38% of U.S. adults regularly get news updates from Facebook, followed by YouTube (36%) then TikTok (20%) and Instagram (20%).  » Read More

Facebook fight erupts between DelDOT and Milford lawmaker over $1.8M Royal Farms grant | News

MILTON, Del.- A state grant for road improvements near a planned Royal Farms in Milton is fueling a dispute over how Delaware spends taxpayer dollars. The Delaware Department of Transportation recently awarded $1.8 million from the state’s Transportation Infrastructure Investment Fund, or TIIF, to cover road improvements around the new convenience store. State Rep. Bryan Shupe (R-Milford) co-sponsored the legislation that created TIIF, but he argues the fund was meant for large-scale projects tied to major job growth — not a gas station expected to add about 25 jobs. “The $1.8 million that has been given through DelDOT through the TIIF funds is misuse of taxpayer money,” Shupe said Wednesday. The online argument began when Shupe posted about the funding, questioning DelDOT’s decision. DelDOT responded in a Facebook post, saying it wanted to “set the record straight.” DelDOT tells CoastTV the project met the program’s legal criteria. "There is no provision in Delaware Code preventing the Council from granting an award for this project as it met the criteria set forth in the Delaware Code and the Delaware Administrative Code regarding the awarding of funding by the TIIF program." The online argument began when Shupe posted about the funding,  » Read
