New residential development proposed for Strathmore – StrathmoreNow.com

As the school year gets underway, Strathmore Town Council will return to its regular schedule with two public hearings planned for its first September meeting. The hearings on Bylaw No. 26-11 and Bylaw No. 26-14 are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 6 p.m. and 6:05 p.m., respectively. The first hearing will focus on proposed amendments to the Prairies Area Structure Plan Bylaw No. 11-08. According to the Town of Strathmore, the proposed amendment would support the development of a residential community on lands north of the Trans-Canada Highway and east of George Freeman Trail. The proposed community would consist of attached residential units centred around a central clubhouse amenity. The amendment would also facilitate neighbourhood commercial uses on a 3.74-acre parcel in the southwest portion of the site. A stormwater management pond with an approximate area of 2.95 acres is also proposed within the southwest portion of Neighbourhood Node D. Why the US‑Canada trade war could change how American farmers grow their crops for years

by Jayash Paudel, University of Oklahoma, U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada is getting personal for American farmers. After trade talks between the two longtime allies fell apart in mid-August 2026, Trump imposed 50% tariffs on a wide range of Canadian imports worth roughly US$20 billion (CAD$27 billion). Canada responded on Aug. 25, 2026, by announcing its own plan to put retaliatory tariffs of 15% to 50% on the same value of U.S. goods, effective Sept. 8. Canada’s list includes dairy products and agricultural equipment, and there is an unspoken threat that it could expand to a crucial component in fertilizer that U.S. farmers rely on. I have studied agriculture and water quality for more than a decade, including whether trade rules change how farmers manage their land. In my assessment, the enduring effect of this trade war on U.S. agriculture, if it continues to escalate, won’t be a single bad season. Across thousands of farms, farmers may have to reduce their fertilizer use as prices – already high from supply disruptions because of the war in Iran – rise. It may have little visible consequence at first

‘Ken Burns in the Classroom’ arrives on YouTube

With the 2026–2027 school year back in session, legendary documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, in collaboration with PBS LearningMedia, today announced that they will be bringing classroom content to the official Ken Burns YouTube Channel. In partnership with PBS LearningMedia, the service that provides free, curriculum-aligned digital resources to teachers and students nationwide, the digital courses from “Ken Burns in the Classroom” combine professionally edited film segments with interactive classroom materials to make history engaging, immersive, and accessible for modern learning environments. “I’ve always thought that our shared history should be accessible to everyone, hence my long-term partnership with PBS for all of our work and with PBS LearningMedia to ensure that teachers and students have access to our films and educational materials.” Ken Burns said. “Bringing these educational materials to YouTube is a natural extension of how we’ve tried to engage educators and students directly, empowering students to ask tough questions, examine different perspectives, and see themselves in the ongoing American story.” The first three courses available on YouTube today are focused on The American Revolution . The six-part, 12-hour documentary series directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt examines how America’s founding turned the world upside-down. Thirteen

YouTube Gold: Duke Smokes West Virginia In The 2010 Final Four

In 2008, #2 seed Duke played #7 West Virginia in the NCAA Tournament, only to see the Mountaineers upset them, 73-67. West Virginia was led by Joe Mazzulla, who had 13 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. Now, of course, he is the head coach of the Boston Celtics. Duke lost largely because West Virginia was more physical and far tougher. Fast forward to 2010, and the Blue Devils got another crack at West Virginia, this time in the Final Four. Duke really didn’t have much trouble with the Mountaineers in this one, leading by 8 at the half, and building a 21-point lead in the second stanza. This team was far more physical than the 2008 version, and would not be bullied. The Blue Devils shot 13-25 from behind the line and Brian Zoubek had 6 points and 10 rebounds and lots of muscle inside. Jon Scheyer scored 23 points and had six assists, with no turnovers. Two days later, the Blue Devils had an absolutely classic championship matchup with the Butler Bulldogs, barely prevailing when Gordon Hayward’s very long shot rimmed out at the buzzer.
