Edgar Cervantes / Android AuthorityTL;DR An Android Authority teardown has revealed that WhatsApp could get screenshot detection for the status feature. This comes over a decade after Snapchat first introduced screenshot detection for its stories. There’s no sign just yet that WhatsApp will actually tell users when someone takes a screenshot of their status. WhatsApp has offered the status feature for a while now, following in Snapchat‘s footsteps. Now, it looks like the Meta-owned platform might be copying another Snapchat feature. Jose Alejandro Belmonte Cardozo, who pleaded guilty in November to one count of transporting child pornography, was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison yesterday (Tuesday) by a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The 31-year-old Belmonte Cardozo collected more than 1,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) across five different devices, many of which were sent via Snapchat and saved locally, federal prosecutors said. The content, which was collected over three years until Belmonte Cardozo’s arrest in May 2024, was discovered after he went through customs inspection at Dulles International Airport. Returning to the U.S. from Colombia, Belmonte Cardozo voluntarily provided the passcodes for his two cell phones to Customs and Border Protection agents, who discovered multiple sexually explicit videos, according to an affidavit. “When I escorted Belmonte out of Dulles, he made a spontaneous statement that he was sorry for what he had on his phone and that we had to look at ‘that stuff’ on his iPhone,” Homeland Security special

Most people are aware that you can clear a chat from the chat feed, but did you know that this isn't the same as clearing the entire conversation? When you clear a chat from the feed, it simply removes it from view, but the conversation remains intact. If the person sends you another message, the chat reappears with all the previous messages still there. However, when you clear the conversation, you're deleting everything in the chat, making it a more thorough cleanup. Until recently, I wasn't even aware of this feature, but once I discovered it, I realized how useful it could be for decluttering and saving space on my device. Let's dive into how you can clear entire conversations in Snapchat.Step 1: Open the Snapchat app on your device. Navigate to the Profile screen by tapping on your profile icon in the top-left cornerStep 2: In the Profile screen, tap the Settings buttonStep 3: Scroll down in the settings menu and select "Clear Data" under the Privacy Controls sectionStep

In a blog post ahead of a two-month trial starting today, Meta said it operates in a dynamic and hypercompetitive space where users spend longer on TikTok and YouTube than on either Facebook or Instagram. Adding those two into the FTC’s social-media market definition gives Meta less than 30 percent market share, it said. "For the FTC to win this case, they need to prove both that Meta has a dominant share in a properly defined product market that includes all competitors, and that the two acquisitions harmed competition and consumers. They are wrong on both claims," the company said.Statement follows.... The holographic displays were set up one week prior to the film’s release and will be available for the entire month. They are featured in properties owned by Macerich and Simon Group, totaling 34 locations. The holographic technology is provided by HMN, while Pretty Big Monster studio has crafted the creative aspects of the content. In addition to these installations, Snapchat has introduced specialized AR filters for the campaign. These include the “Blockify Your World” feature which boasts four different AR filters, one of which includes a 3D body tracking system that morphs users into characters from the movie, such as zombies and skeletons. This feature will be highlighted at a significant event planned at Roosevelt Field Mall in New York.
