Popular Twitch VTuber CodeMiko will join the lineup of entertainment personalities when G4TV makes its much-anticipated return in summer 2021. G4TV originally shut down at the end of 2014, leaving gamers and fans of popular culture with an empty void in their television schedules. However, with the announcement of its return, fans have begun to get excited about the programming being announced. On April 30, G4TV announced that CodeMiko will be joining the lineup on the newly revived channel. CodeMiko, a VTuber primarily featured on Twitch, has been conducting interviews with many popular digital entertainers such as Videogamedunkey. A featured tweet of hers from February shows a clip from the interview with Videogamedunkey, as she changes her model's outfits to become a scantily clad nun. CodeMiko's ability to make interviewees uncomfortable is one of the main selling points for her streams. VTubers, also known as virtual YouTubers, produce content in a video while digitally altered to look like a different person. CodeMiko appears to take the form of a woman in her early twenties, though the character is performed by a person only known to the public as "The Technician." A digital bodysuit records her movements and processes them into the character that…

One of the biggest draws of streaming is the relationship viewers feel they develop with their favorite creator, but it might not be wise to start thinking big-name streamers are anything like the rest of us. There was definitely time in the early days of streaming when it could be said the big streamers were similar to your average gamer, but no more. In the year 2021 there’s so much money going around, influencers on Twitch and YouTube are in a whole other tax bracket than most, according to Asmongold. Twitch: asmongoldAsmon has been a big name in streaming for years, so he would definitely know how the game is played. While playing some WoW Shadowlands on a secondary channel, Asmon went on a soliloquy about why it was “naive” to believe that your favorite famous streamer is just like you, or even comparable. “To some degree, ‘relatability’ is important, sure,” Asmon remarked. “But, I really think that people are very naive, when they think that many streamers…

Now, instead of turning to the biggest names on TikTok or Twitch, marketing companies are looking to work with “microinfluencers.” These are people who regularly create content but for a smaller, more dedicated audience. And it’s that relationship between the creator and the viewers that makes them so valuable to brands. “Engagement rate as a whole is actually negatively correlated with followers,” Rainmaker.gg and Lightstream chief executive officer Stu Grubbs said during a GamesBeat Summit panel today. “The larger the following that a content creator has, the less engagement they get on a per-viewer basis. So it actually goes to show that the smaller community you have has a lot more impact.” Grubbs explains that brands want to get the biggest return on investment, and a dollar spent on a smaller streamer can actually go further than with someone who has a massive audience. And most marketers understand this. The problem is that working with a lot of smaller creators is labor intensive and cumbersome. “You need to have the relationship and write the contract,…

Trout is enjoying another fantastic year with the Angels, hitting a ridiculous .420 with six bombs already through 20 games. At this point, it seems as the older Trout gets, the better he becomes. LA is currently just above .500 at 12-11, much in part to the slugger’s dominance at the plate. As for TimTheTatMan, he is one of the most popular videogame streamers in the world, amassing a total of 241.7 million views on Twitch, as of April 25th. He also has over six million followers on the streaming app. Considering that Mike Trout…

Getty Images Twitch, Amazon's video game streaming platform, has had its share of streamers who created content too sexualized or too toxic for the company's terms and services. Not the Democrats’ upset wins in Georgia, flipping the Senate in their favor. Not President Biden’s leftward swerve. How about the fact that, after he was kicked off Twitter and Facebook, former President Donald Trump pretty much just … went away. He didn’t start his own social media company, as some close observers thought he might, and he didn’t mount a major public battle to get his accounts reinstated. He just quietly retreated (for now) to Mar-a-Lago.Be honest: Did you ever think that would happen?Still, the behavior of one man — no matter how famous, no matter how formidable a troll — does not determine the behavior of others. And as Twitter, Facebook and other platforms have cracked down on misinformation, the internet’s younger and spryer purveyors of far-right conspiracy theories have moved elsewhere. One platform that has particularly attracted them is Twitch, an Amazon-owned livestreaming video site that our tech reporter Kellen Browning describes in a recent article as “a new mainstream base of operations for many…
