Christian Streamer Plans to Sue Twitch After Ban

A Christian evangelist streamer announces he plans to sue Twitch for an indefinite ban from the platform he received in January for hateful conduct. Every once in a while, there will be news of some group either getting sued by the streaming giant Twitch, or trying to sue Twitch. The latest person wanting to sue Twitch is a Christian evangelist streamer who goes by the name "DrWitnesser," who may or may not have modeled his name as a response to Call of Duty streamer Dr Disrespect. Last summer, DrWitnesser was temporarily banned from Twitch for preaching in Fortnite, where the streamer essentially told a Muslim child that he would be going to hell. On January 7 of this year, he received an indefinite ban from Twitch. The official reason given was for engaging in hateful conduct, and the streamer announced he would be moving to YouTube. DrWitnesser took to Twitter to announce he would be pursuing legal action against Twitch in relation to his indefinite ban from earlier this year. According to the streamer, the basis of the suit is the "unlawful termination of Twitch account on the basis of religious discrimination." He is seeking the full restoration of his Twitch account and the removal of…

Twitch deletes thousands of videos

The scene speaks of a “bloodbath”: The streaming platform Twitch has launched a major deletion campaign with reference to copyright violations. Many Twitch users reacted indignantly to the extinguishing offensive. While the provider had pointed out copyrighted content to users in a previous campaign, the red pen now ruled. At the same time, those affected were informed that their videos had been removed.  Critics accuse the provider of neither hearing statements nor indicating which specific videos were affected. This means that the intended learning effect does not materialize. In addition, occasional users complain that videos that only used license-free background music were deleted. In the accompanying e-mail, the operator states that they are aware that the streamers would not have had a chance of a reply in these cases. “That’s why we see this as a one-time warning,” Twitch says literally – making it clear that this is just the beginning. There is already talk of a bloodbath on Twitter.  Users complain that the lifework of some artists is disappearing. Comparisons to similar actions from YouTube emerge. There are also calls for an automatic detection system that can detect such content and warn users. In the background, the RIAA pulls…

Twitch Has Already Banned 270 Top Partners In 2021

Twitch has issued nearly 300 bans in 2021. ASSOCIATED PRESS This year, Twitch is primed to average over three million concurrent viewers, clocking two billion hours of content watched each month. However, this increase in users has put more pressure than ever on Twitch’s moderation team, which has found itself doling out an unprecedented number of account bans since the start of 2021. New research carried out by esports bookmaker Unikrn has found that at least 270 Twitch partners have been given bans–both temporary and permanent–in just the first two months of this year. Overall, Twitch has issued 321 individual bans since New Year’s Day; January was a busier month (173) than the shorter February (148).  According to statistics gathered via tracking service StreamerBans, 22 partners have registered multiple account violations in 2021. Leading the pack with an incredible six individual bans is Ukrainian Dota 2 caster Vladislav “KVYZEE” Kovalchuk, who has been expelled from the platform for periods of time ranging from mere minutes to full days.  While many streamers have been permanently banned, others are having this decision overturned, without a full explanation from Twitch. Just last month, 16-year-old Fortnite streamer Cody “Clix” Conrod learned he was booted…
