(KOIN) —  The mother of an Oregon teenager who took his own life after constant cyberbullying has filed a class action lawsuit against Snapchat. Kristin Bride’s suit claims two apps available through Snapchat–Yolo and LMK– which allow users to send messages anonymously, are inherently dangerous and unsafe and should be held accountable for her son Carson taking his own life in June of last year. According to the suit, the anonymity in the apps allowed users to continuously bully Carson without consequence. Bride said these types of platforms have been known to cause severe and fatal harm to teens and that many others have ended their lives over the same set of circumstances.  “We found out that, in the last days of Carson’s life, he was desperately reaching out to friends to learn who was harassing him and searching for Yolo hacks to find a way to identify his tormentors,” said Kristin and husband Tom in a statement. “He never did, and,…

The 16-year-old had been receiving anonymous messages for months, according to a federal lawsuit filed Monday in California, through a popular Snapchat app called YOLO. The messages included sexual comments and taunts over specific incidents, like the time he’d fainted in biology class at his Portland, Ore., school. The messages had to be coming from people he knew, but the app’s design made it impossible for him to know who was behind it. If he replied to the taunts, YOLO would automatically make the original message public, revealing his humiliation to the world. His family found him dead on June 23, 2020. THE BRONX, N.Y. — The family of Buffalo State College student Saniyya Dennis, who disappeared from campus two weeks ago, released a scathing statement Friday night refuting the local district attorney’s assertion that the Bronx teen died by suicide. Erie County District Attorney John Flynn held a news briefing Thursday during which he outlined a timeline of events and evidence that he said led to the conclusion that Dennis “took her own life.” The 19-year-old was last seen leaving her dorm late at night on April 24 after having an argument with her boyfriend earlier in the day that led him to break up with her, Flynn said. The district attorney said Dennis had multiple conversations about suicide the day she disappeared and was captured by park cameras inside Niagra Falls State Park that night.
