Utah defends social media child protection laws against Snapchat suit

Utah and Snapchat have taken each other on multiple spins around state, federal and appeals courts since the laws were initially enacted in 2023. (CN) — The state of Utah asked a federal court judge on Thursday to dismiss a Snap Inc. lawsuit seeking to prevent the state from enforcing new laws aimed at protecting children from social media companies. Utah Attorney General Derek Brown and Katie Haas, director of the Utah Department of Commerce Consumer Protection Division, accused Snapchat and its owner Snap Inc. of filing a new lawsuit in federal court to avoid the state’s enforcement of new social media laws while there is still pending civil enforcement in different courts. They asked the federal court to abstain from hearing any of Snapchat’s challenges to the Utah social media laws while those cases are ongoing. “There is one side in this case that is trying to avoid the effect of court decisions,” argued attorney Jimmy Rock, of D.C.-based law firm Edelson PC, representing the state of Utah. “It is not the state. It is Snap.” Snapchat’s attorney, Rush Atkinson of D.C. law firm Dunn Isaacson Rhee, argued that the matter had already been decided in federal court in the

Australia adds Reddit and Kick to social media platforms banning children under 16

Australia’s eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant, who will enforce the social media ban, said the list of age-restricted platforms would evolve with new technologies | Photo Credit: REUTERS Australia has added message board Reddit and livestreaming service Kick to its list of social media platforms that must ban children younger than 16 from holding accounts. The platforms join Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, X and YouTube in facing a world-first legal obligation to shut the accounts of younger Australian children from December 10, Communications Minister Anika Wells said on Wednesday. Platforms that fail to take reasonable steps to exclude children younger than 16 could be punished with a fine of up to 50 million Australian dollars ($33 million). “We have met with several of the social media platforms in the past month so that they understand there is no excuse for failure to implement this law,” Wells told reporters in Canberra. “Online platforms use technology to target children with chilling control. We are merely asking that they use that same technology to keep children safe online,” Wells added. Australia’s eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant, who will enforce the social media ban, said the list of age-restricted platforms would evolve

Snapchat’s ad bet finds an ally in IAS as inbox ads redefine engagement – Campaign India

For years, the promise of advertising in private spaces like chat feeds was considered a line few social platforms dared to cross. Direct messages were sacred; they were intimate, unmonetised, and off-limits. But Snapchat, a platform that thrives on immediacy and ephemerality, has been quietly rewriting that rulebook. And now, with its expanded partnership with Integral Ad Science (IAS), it’s betting that transparency and third-party measurement will convince marketers that its most private space is also one of the most valuable. Every day, 469 million people use Snapchat to create, share and enjoy visual content. It’s a habit-driven platform, where communication and creativity blur into one. Sponsored Snaps, where ads that appear natively within Snapchat’s Chat Feed, represent an experiment in blending brand messaging with everyday social behaviour. For Snapchat’s advertising partners, this integration into the user’s chat inbox has become a high-stakes opportunity: intimate, high-frequency, but potentially intrusive. Yesterday, IAS announced an expansion of its measurement partnership with Snap Inc. to provide advertisers with third-party tools to validate and optimise ad effectiveness across Snapchat, including Sponsored Snaps. The move builds on a collaboration that began in 2018 and has since evolved to include Viewability, Invalid Traffic (IVT), Brand Safety

Charlotte Flair Goes Full Pretty Woman With Backstage Halloween Transformation

Charlotte Flair didn’t need the ring to make headlines this Halloween. The WWE star turned heads with a daring costume inspired by Julia Roberts’ “hooker” look from the 1990 film Pretty Woman—and she did it right from the SmackDown venue. Wearing a revealing white-and-blue cutout dress with thigh-high black boots, a black leather hat, and a red jacket slung around her waist, Flair confidently strutted through the hallway like she owned the place. The video, posted on her social media, shows her mumbling the words, “Pretty woman.” The footage was shot backstage at the same arena where WWE SmackDown took place. She wasn’t just dressing up—she was performing the part, walking with attitude and flashing her smirk as walked. For anyone who somehow missed the plot—Pretty Woman is the one where Julia Roberts plays a Hollywood hooker who ends up in a fairytale romance with a loaded businessman played by Richard Gere. Shopping montages, wild chemistry, and one of the most iconic glow-ups in movie history. While other stars were posting filtered selfies or throwback photos, Flair went full-on Hollywood street-style and turned a backstage hallway into her own personal runway. Charlotte Flair isn’t afraid to go all in when
