Rockets Record Reverse Sweep Over Northern Illinois – University of Toledo Athletics

DEKALB, Ill. – The Toledo women's volleyball team recorded a 3-2 reverse-sweep victory (28-30, 26-28, 25-19, 25-21, 21-19) over Northern Illinois on Saturday evening. The Rockets move to 16-5 (7-2 MAC) overall on the season and recorded the season sweep over the Huskies. Toledo rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win for the first time this season. Toledo fired off 14 service aces in the match, the second-straight contest in which the team has totaled double-figure aces and fifth match of the season with 10-plus aces. Senior setter Kelsey Smith recorded a team-best five aces to go along with a career-best 57 assists and 18 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Sophomore outside Olivia Heitkamp led the Rockets' offense with 19 kills. Senior Sophia Catalano tied her career-high with 17 terminations on a career-best .348 clip. Redshirt sophomore Kayla Ozanich set a career-best with 17 kills to go along with four blocks. Sophomore libero Grace Freiberger paced the defense, totaling 25 digs for her seventh match of the season with 20-plus digs. Junior defensive specialist Avery Adamski added in a season-best 14 digs. TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler volleyball moved to 9-8 on the year and 5-2 in LSC play after falling 3-0 to Lubbock Christian on Friday night inside the HPC.   The two teams went back and forth over a tight first set that featured 20 total ties and 66 total points. The Patriots rallied early with a 5-1 run that featured kills from Alyson Robbins , Kota Hartman , and Jackie Velzis , but the Lady Chaps rallied back to tie the match at 11-11.   Late in the set, it was a 3-0 run that featured an error and kills from Hartman and Audrey Brandon to make it 24-20, but the Lady Chaps again rallied as they forced the set into extra points with a 4-0 run. Volleyball Opens Second Round of Conference Play Against USUE

OPENING SERVE: The Snow College volleyball team will start its second round of conference games against No. 8 Utah State University Eastern Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Horne Activity Center in Ephraim. The Badgers defeated the Eagles in their earlier matchup 3-1.  The Badgers are coming off a weekend where they dropped both of their games against North Idaho College, 3-2, and the College of Southern Idaho, 3-1.  KNOW YOUR FOE: USUE sits at a record of 15-5 with a 3-2 Scenic West Athletic Conference record. DEKALB, Ill. – Down a player for nearly the final 20 minutes due to a red card, the Northern Illinois University women's soccer team fell, 1-0, to a late Bowling Green goal on Thursday evening (Oct. 16) at the NIU Soccer Complex. "We can't fault the effort and endeavor," said NIU head coach Michael O'Neill . "Eleven players, 10 players, they work their socks off and put pressure on (Bowling Green). We denied them creating many chances, outshot them 10-5 (in the second half) … The final product is just not there." NIU (4-7-3, 2-4-2 MAC) goalkeeper Lauren Pearson (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) was called into action for the first time in the sixth minute, palming away a shot from Minah Syam. EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's soccer captured a key home victory Thursday, besting Southeast Missouri 1-0 at Korte Stadium. Claire Nieroda scored the game winner at 75:11 from 12 yards out as SIUE improved to 2-3-2 in Ohio Valley Conference play and 3-10-3 overall. Southeast Missouri dropped to 2-13-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the OVC. Savannah DeFini recorded the assist on Nieroda's second goal of the season. Sarah Bozeman earned her third shutout of the season and finished with four saves. Her counterpart Madison Geisler collected 11 saves for the Redhawks. The Golden Eagles finished third in Acworth, Ga. Maxwell backed up his two straight wins with a second-place finish after shooting 74 during the third and final round today of The Scrappy at Cobblestone. Maxwell led the field after yesterday's action but managed just three birdies and an eagle during the final 18 holes.
