YouTube link preview not working on WhatsApp and other similar apps for many

Link previews allow users to have a sneak peek into the kind of content a link has in store, since links alone don’t convey much. This essential feature, however, isn’t working for several users. Upon trying to share YouTube links on WhatsApp and some other similar social apps, the link preview fails to show up. And there have been several complaints on YouTube forums and Twitter regarding this. I copied my YouTube video link and pasted on text but no preview shows up! I tried pasting the URL of my YouTube video on Whatsapp and Facebook but no meta description or thumbnail shows up for any of my videos. Source Same here. YouTube link preview is not working in either iPhone WhatsApp and Windows-10 WhatsApp Application, what about others. Source While reports about broken YouTube link previews have been going on for a while, there has been a huge spike recently from WhatsApp users. It appears that WhatsApp has released a bad update that has broken the link previews for YouTube. Links from other sources work fine though. I was also able to reproduce the YouTube link preview not working issue on the latest available stable as well as beta…

'It's all about the cracking noise': the unlikely cult of the online chiropractor

The man in a waistcoat and jeans stands over a woman who lies face-down on a vinyl bed. He is all hairy arms, and she a mop of dip-dyed hair. He presses one palm on her back; with the other he cups the side of her head and sharply thrusts. Click, crack: her neck twists in a way that necks don’t usually like to be twisted. The woman curses in apparent relief; the man laughs. He is Joseph Cipriano, a chiropractor who is also known as Dr Joe Back Crack or the Y Strap Doc (after his trademark treatment tool) and this video of him adjusting a client with “*EXTREMELY LOUD* chiropractic cracking” has been viewed 19m times.Cipriano, who has 1.6 million subscribers on YouTube and his own range of “Team Y Strap” and “Make Your Spine Great Again” sweatshirts, is one of what his fellow chiropractors, Doc Manasseh, calls “a new wave of chiropractors globally to have gone viral”. In an age of back pain, chiropractors are the new social media influencers. But why do so many people want to watch them? And is the rise about more than a interest in good spine health?Cipriano is an unlikely figure.…

Can the Gravel Institute compete with the right-wing YouTube machine?

Last year, a pair of plucky teenagers ran a presidential campaign for former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel. Gravel, then 89, handed over the reins of his campaign to the two teens, Henry Williams and David Oks, in exchange for a commitment that they would use whatever influence came from the campaign to move people to the left. “After that campaign ended in August of 2019, we went on hiatus and we tried to think a lot about how we can best do that,” Williams, now 20 and taking a gap year from Columbia University, says. “And what we stumbled on was this question of institutions on the left.” Now that the 2020 election cycle is mostly over (barring a coup attempt and the Georgia Senate runoffs), the Gravel campaign is now the Gravel Institute, focused on creating media, specifically YouTube videos, to combat right-wing video commentators PragerU. The “Institute” itself is still mostly Williams, Oks, and a variety of helpers and supporters. But their hope is that — dependent on how they grow in the next year — they’ll be able to expand. Gravel himself is at this point loosely involved in an advisory capacity, but is not part of…

US-funded media outlet 'Current Time' fires journalist for appearing on YouTube show to discuss …

On Thursday, reporters learned that the Russian-language television channel Current Time, created by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and funded by the U.S. Congress, has fired journalist Timur Olevsky for an unauthorized appearance last month on columnist Oleg Kashin’s YouTube show. Sources told the websites Mediazona and MBK Media that Olevsky violated his work contract by joining Kashin’s broadcast without his editors’ permission. Meduza summarizes the scandal.Firing Olevsky is a big deal in Russia’s small journalist community for at least two reasons: (1) he worked for a Washington-funded media outlet, and (2) his interactions with Oleg Kashin facilitated a conspiracy theory against opposition figure Alexey Navalny’s wife. In other words, Current Time dismissed Timur Olevsky after he criticized the Navalnys — a publicity nightmare for everyone except pro-Kremlin pundits like Russia Today editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan, who immediately reported the story as evidence of American hypocrisy. The backstoryOn October 5, 2020, superstar YouTuber Yury Dud published a more-than-two-hour interview with the Navalnys. An hour and 45 minutes into the video, Dud asks Navalnaya if her father ever worked for Russia’s military intelligence, as some online rumors allege. She denies the rumor, explains that her father died years ago, and blames celebrity Ksenia Sobchak for…
