Rico Nasty Shares Black & White Video for Hard-Hitting New Song “OHFR?” and Will Sell Clip as …

Danielle Joyner March 20th, 2021 - 5:15 PM Sugar Trap’s Rico Nasty has become on of the first female artists to release a one-of-a-kind non-fungible token, the release of her video for her new song, “OHFR?.” “OHFR?” is a song from Rico Nasty’s debut album, Nightmare Vacation, which is available now via Atlantic Records. The release of Rico’s newest song follows the releases of previous singles “iPhone,” “Own It,” “Don’t Like Me” featuring Don Toliver and Gucci Mane and “STFU.” Rico’s new song is catchy with a catch phrase of “Oh, for real?” The video accompanied with the song is a bit eerie and dark as Rico wears her hair in spikes and dresses in an ’emo-punk rock’ attire. In a portion of the video, Rico can be seen with her eyes blacked out, creating a creepy image. Check out the video below. The release of the new song and video will be sold as a non-fungible token (NFT). NFTs are a new “paradigm in art collecting” according to the press release.  » Read More

Theory of anything and everything

Perspectives from a tech angle—some novel, some oversimplified or overoptimisticA file photo of humanoid robots being mass-produced in Turkey (Reuters)Just when people had thought that there was no space for any more social media companies or concepts, Clubhouse has taken the world by storm. No doubt Tesla founder Elon Musk and Microsoft founder Bill Gates participating in online rooms has helped with the app’s visibility, but the world certainly needs a break from 140 characters. The democratisation of discussion has given everyone a chance to interact. Think of a panel where you can interact with the community, listen to new ideas and pitch ideas of your own. But Clubhouse is not as democratic as it is supposed to be; there are choices on who can leave their mic open and how much rights entrants to groups have. However, it is more participative than Twitter or Facebook as it’s voice-driven.The reason I am discussing Clubhouse is because Po Bronson and Arvind Gupta’s work is a long clubhouse chat from anything to everything.  » Read More

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg criticizes Apple on Clubhouse

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.  James Martin The public feud between Facebook and Apple keeps heating up. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made it clear before he isn't happy with Apple's upcoming privacy update that will prompt users to give apps, including the social network he cofounded, permission to track their activity across other apps and the web. Apple, on the other hand, has said the change is meant to give users more control over their data. Apple is expected to roll out the change in the early spring.  Everything Apple CNET's Apple Report newsletter delivers news, reviews and advice on iPhones, iPads, Macs and software. On Thursday, Zuckerberg reiterated his concerns about Apple's update in a discussion on the invite-only audio app Clubhouse, noting the update could harm small businesses and developers more than Facebook, which makes billions of dollars from ads every quarter."The reality is is that I'm confident that we're gonna be able to manage through that situation well and we'll be in a good position.  » Read More

Japanese app Crabhouse had to change its name because of Clubhouse

Who would have thought that there would be a social media app which lets you enter a chat room as a virtual crab called Crabhouse? And who would have thought that it would be made to change its name to Crabhome after it sounded “too similar” to the audio-chat app Clubhouse? Crabhouse—an app that is only about a month old—was created by Japanese developer Ryota Ikegai. However, according to Japan Today it has already gotten over 150,000 downloads and nearly 2,000 five-star reviews on the App Store.  Crabhouse is a quirky social media app which lets you come in a virtual “house” as a little crab. Other people as little crabs would also be in the same house, and you’re able to read that other crabs are saying by tapping on the crabs. The app might be totally different from the invite-only audio-chat platform Clubhouse, and it seems like a harmless play on words. But Apple didn’t see it that way.

Rising encrypted app Signal is down in China

Chinese users of the instant messenger Signal knew that the good times wouldn’t last long. The app, which is used for encrypted conversations, is unavailable in mainland China as of the morning of March 16, a test by TechCrunch shows. The website of the app has been banned in mainland China since March 15, according to censorship-tracking website Greatfire.org. Signal could not be immediately reached for comment. The encrypted chat app was one of the few Western social networks that remained accessible in China without the use of a virtual private network. The likes of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have long been blocked. In some way, a ban is a badge of honor, signifying a foreign app has reached a substantial user base in China that catches the attention of local authorities. Signal is still available for download on Apple’s China App Store as of March 16, an indication that Apple hasn’t received a government order to remove the app, which is gradually gaining ground among China’s tech-savvy, privacy-conscious users.  » Read More
