Posted on 29 June 2025. As of June 18, 2025, the U.S. Department of State has expanded its visa application requirements for non-immigrant categories, mandating that all applicants for F (student), M (vocational), and J (exchange visitor) visas disclose their social media activity from the past five years. The J nonimmigrant visa is the best known of these. It covers work in the US for a limited period, while its J1 iteration allows students and college graduates to enter the U.S. during the summer for work and travel. An F nonimmigrant visa allows foreign nationals to enter the U.S. temporarily to pursue academic studies at certain institutions. The M nonimmigrant visa is similar, covering education in non-academic or vocational fields. The new measures do not affect Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) visas. This enhanced screening measure, applicable globally, includes Portuguese nationals in these categories as part of the U.S. government’s efforts to strengthen national security protocols. The list includes submitting all social media usernames to include major platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, LinkedIn, Reddit, Snapchat, YouTube, and others. If the platform is not listed in the form’s dropdown menu, applicants must select “Other” and manually

And as you might expect (given the report was published by Snap), the data shows that Snapchat drives significant interest in electronics discovery. As per the report: “ From viral product drops to creator reviews, social platforms are a major catalyst in consumer electronics discovery. 78% of Snapchatters say social is where they typically first learn about new products and brands, which is 1.6x greater than non-Snapchatters.” Look, I’m not saying this is not true, but I do question the methodology on this one. As you can see in the examples above, the data is based on measuring how survey participants, including a subsection who identify themselves as Snapchat users, agree or disagree with each question. So the survey question would be: “Social inspires me to find new tech products I would not have tried,” and based on how they answer, and the indicators of which apps they use, the data suggests that Snapchat users are 1.6x more likely to agree. But the results would be relative to how many Snapchat

Cardiff Crown Court heard the boys, now aged 13 and 16, used the app to discuss sourcing knives, luring the girl to Barry Island, Vale of Glamorgan, and carrying out the attack. On 23 November 2024, they took her to the Harbour Road car park, where she was choked, repeatedly stabbed, and kicked in the face, leaving her unconscious. The defendants, who cannot be named because of their ages, were sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court after admitting wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The girl, who knew the boys, spent three days at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where she underwent three operations. She has since been diagnosed with PTSD and said she thinks about the attack "every day", the court heard. The night before the attack, the boys discussed their plans on Snapchat, with prosecutors outlining what was said. "Bruv, we meeting down Asda?" the 13-year-old asked. They talked about bringing "tings", slang for blades, and said they would "ching" the girl, which is slang for stabbing. The 13-year-old also

Key evidence, including Snapchat messages and Butler's confession, was deemed inadmissible by the judge. The prosecution failed to establish sufficient evidence linking Butler to the alleged crimes despite showing Butler was near the girl's home while off-duty. An internal investigation by the South Bend Police Department will follow the conclusion of the criminal proceedings. A South Bend police officer who's been suspended without pay since last year awaiting trial saw his two charges of child seduction dismissed in court June 24. The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s office moved to dismiss its case against suspended South Bend Police officer Rico Butler after evidence was excluded from his trial, which began June 23 with jury selection. With messages between Butler and the girl barred from being shown to a jury, as well as Butler's reported confession, that left a lack of evidence to link Butler to the sex crimes he was accused of. “This is one of those cases where — we’re all familiar with these cases having been in the justice system as long as we all have — when the case we have when

Nigel Hooper, of Mountain Park, Kilgetty, appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates this week after admitting the breach, which occurred at around 3:00am on June 19. The court heard that Hooper, who was scrolling through Snapchat, noticed a friend suggestion from a user named ‘Tattoedpolar84’ and decided to add them. However, he did not realise the account belonged to the woman he was prohibited from contacting under a restraining order issued by Swansea Crown Court in September 2024, following a conviction for actual bodily harm. Crown Prosecutor Sian Vaughan said: “The lady accessed her Snapchat, which she doesn’t use very often, and saw a friend request from her ex-partner. It was a clear attempt to contact her, and it was unwanted and distressing. She feels the defendant is getting bolder in his attempts to reach her.” Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that
