For almost his entire presidency, Donald Trump commanded the attention of the world on Twitter like no other. From firing his staff to potentially threatening a nuclear attack, the Twitter account @realDonaldTrump was an unfiltered window into one of the most powerful offices in the world. The former president knew the power of his now permanently banned account. Then on January 9, in the wake of the deadly riots on Capitol Hill, Trump's Twitter account was banned. (KOTA) - As an influx of immigrants make their way to America’s southern border, Governor Kristi Noem says that she does not intend for South Dakota to accept them.South Dakota won't be taking any illegal immigrants that the Biden Administration wants to relocate. My message to illegal immigrants... call me when you're an American.— Governor Kristi Noem (@govkristinoem) April 14, 2021 However, that decision is ultimately not hers.“The state, governor, cities, counties... Nobody has any authority over federal immigration law,” said Taneeza Islam, Executive Director for South Dakota Voices for Peace. “These children, when they come to South Dakota, they aren’t part of any agency. They are staying with people they presumably have a relationship with, and are vetted through the Health and Human Services office of refugee settlement.”Islam also called the Governor’s tweets “un-American, racist, and heartless.”Former President Donald Trump issued an executive order allowing states and cities to refuse to accept refugees. Current President Joe Biden struck down that order in February. The announcement comes in light of the Biden administration asking states to volunteer to house displaced migrant children. However, Noem’s office said that they had not been asked directly by the administration to do so…

Gone are the days of Cheech & Chong and the stereotype of the lazy pothead: Cannabis is now a legit business. The legal market for cannabis in the U.S. is valued at slightly more than $15 billion for 2020, with sales projections going as high as $37 billion for 2024 — and those are conservative estimates. As the cannabis business thrives, issues have arisen around commercial auto coverage. For example, companies that deliver are experiencing coverage challenges, and often without their knowledge. “So many dispensaries have vehicles on the road that aren’t properly covered, and they aren’t aware of it,” said Rocco Petrilli, chairman of the National Cannabis Risk Management Association. “We find it daily in the people we talk to. The attachment to cannabis makes the type of auto coverages these dispensaries need either overly expensive or even cost-prohibitive.”

He has now deactivated his Twitter account. Councilor Kevin Stine took to social media about protesters outside Medford City Hall. He tweeted saying “Living in their heads rent-free”. This comment angered homeless advocates all over Twitter and then silence. “I will support this ordinance because I have love and compassion,” said Councilor Stine in a council meeting earlier this month. Kevin Stine declined an interview, but said in a statement about the situation: On April 1st and 2nd, the Medford City Council passed an ordinance that would make Medford, and the Bear Creek Greenway a safer and more family-friendly area for everyone, especially during fire season. I spent hours talking to people, reading emails, and seeing the Greenway myself, before coming to the decision to support the ordinance. The result of my support of the ordinance brought criticism from some individuals, much of it threatening and unproductive. My frustration with the circulation of lies and misinformation, coupled with a situation at the close of the April 1 Council Meeting, volatile enough that Medford Police offered to walk me…

The findings provide evidence that a person’s level of cognitive reflection is related to their online behaviors.“I have an interdisciplinary background at the intersection of cognitive science and data science. This work is part of my broader area of research where I look at how the way our thinking styles relate to the way we act online on social media,” said study author Mohsen Mosleh (@_mohsen_m), an assistant professor at the University of Exeter Business School and research affiliate at the MIT Sloan School of Management. The researchers used the online Prolific platform to recruit 1,901 regular Twitter users. The participants completed a Cognitive Reflection Test, which contains questions that tend to generate quick and intuitive — but incorrect — answers. Those who take more time to reflect on the questions tend to perform better on the test. For example, participants were asked “If you are running a race and you pass the person in second place, what place are you in?” The answer that intuitively comes…

I have three Spotify playlists dedicated to this woman. When I’m not listening to her music, I’m asking myself when more might come. “Lorde, where is the album?” is an integral part of my dialect — sometimes shouted at friends and family, sometimes shouted into the void as I dance-cry to “Green Light” in my car. It hasn’t always been this way. I used to know peace. Let’s take it back to the beginning in hopes of pinpointing the beginning of Lorde’s rent-free lease inside my mind. It didn’t start in 2013 — when Lorde first exploded onto the scene — as the slick soundscape of “Royals” permeated the air of my mom’s minivan every morning and afternoon of my eighth grade year. It didn’t start in 2016 — when the edgy lyricism of “Pure Heroine” became a lengthy personal mantra — as my friends and I weaved through small-town backroads to “400 Lux” and “Buzzcut Season.” It didn’t even start in June 2017, with the long-anticipated release of the critically-acclaimed “Melodrama.”…
